As much as I tease you lawyers, my great hero Sam Houston was a lawyer - the first in Oklahoma.
Most of his lawyerin' (near where I live) was fighting Fort Gibson commandant Matt Arbuckle. They were poker buddies. Arbuckle brought charges against Houston claiming he was Indian whiskey running. There was cause. Sam had six giant whiskey barrels in his storeroom.
Sam argued it was for personal consumption. Being a known drunk (in fact a laughingstock) the charges were eventually dismissed.
Three years later Houston led the Texas Revolution which started the dominos falling creating the continential United States. He could have been President twice but his principles came first. Lincoln's 'a house divided cannot stand' came from Houston.
