I cant believe that one series could be a game change and this is all analysts have to talk about..really is this going to earn them hundreds of millions of $$$$ really there is so much content out there all ready ..its laughable
1. House of Cards
2. Hemlock Grove
3. Arrested Development
4. Orange is the New Black
6. Lilyhammer, Season 2
All in 2013.
Netflix plans to add 5 more series in 2014. With time-slot TV, a new show added means an existing show exiting, Netflix can add, and add, and add without cancelling existing shows. As long as a show brings in enough subscribers, the show continues. Lilyhammer might not be able to hold down a primetime slot on CBS or Showtime, but it's successfully enough to earn a second season on Netflix.
Take a show like "Jericho" which was cancelled once, brought back, and cancelled again after the second season. That show has a strong cult following who were very disappointed to see it go. Even if the writers/directors/actors agreed to pay cuts to keep the show going, it would still have to be cancelled because a primetime spot is too valuable. Netflix is different, though, in that it isn't straightjacketed by primetime timeslots, and Sarandos could negotiate budgets to keep a moderate success producing new seasons.
