    Market activity doldrums

Just as the ADVs of the broader markets have been in decline over the past month, so, too, has CXW's 3-months' ADV been heading towards magnitudes not seen in more than a year.

Some of you may have noticed that CXW has been trading in 5-digit volumes quite a bit recently. In the 23 trading days that have occurred since June 1st (don't forget that the market was closed for Reagan's funeral), fully 9 of those trading days (39.13%) were 5-digiters.

For the week just ended, 7/02/04, Y!-F is showing cxw's ADV as 136,772. If that ADV were to decline by another 1,738 shares per day, it would make CXW's ADV the lowest it's been in about 14 months.

Not since the week ending 5/02/03 (ADV = 128,363), the week in which CXW's ADV advanced into the 6-digit realm from the 5-digit realm it had been in for more than 10 months, since the week ending 6/28/02 (ADV = 98,090), would CXW's have gotten so low.

    Here's the history:

    136,772 (7/02/04)
    136,500 (3/12/04)
    135,045 (3/05/04)
    128,363 (5/02/03)
