ClackClack: More dividends would help and the company can afford to increase the payout. The new issue of Barrons (9-30-02) contains a story about the title insurance industry and the re-financing boom. It only mentions the two biggest companies FAF and FNF not the best, ITIC. I have owned faf several times and made money each time. However, at this point I prefer ITIC. It has no "goodwill" or "intangibles on its balance sheet whereas the other title companies carry sizeable amounts with that caption. I simply refuse to pay very much for intangibles. I have seen too many writeoffs of them. Now then, the increasing interest in the title companies should start very soon and it should really be evident when they report earnings for the September quarter. Hang in there, it should be a profitable ride.
Judging by your post, I lokks like you've been following this industry for awhile and are familair with some of the players. I've just gotten interested in it lately (we re-financed our house last week). Are you familiar with CTGI? Do you have an opinion on it? Thanks in advance.
jake: I didn't know anything about CTGI until I looked up on yahoo finance. It appears to be more of an agency for escrows and title insurance rather than an insurance underwriter. I don't really have an opinion on it, but if you want more information on it you can look at yahoo finance for its profile, financial statements etc. Good luck.
