Noticed that SWKS reports its earnings earlier than it has typically done the last few quarters (the 18th as opposed to the 25th, 30th). I construe this to be a great sign for a few reasons: 1) by being the first semi to report, it shows they are confident; 2) by now reporting before AAPL they convey that they are independent of AAPL and well diversified; 3) they are tired of having the stock trounced by the earnings news of other companies and a great report/guidance will help to immunize stock price against bad #s from AAPL, TQNT, AVGO, etc.; and 4) its about time we saw the management take control of the storyline!
We are now entering a time for new product ramp ups so GUIDANCE WILL BE KEY!
Yes...and in 2011 on July 21 and in 2010 on July 22...I got. And yes the current date may be consistent with when SWKS has historically reported its Q3 earnings in July...I got it. But my original post was not comparing Q3 July release dates over the last decade, but rather earnings releases for the "last few quarters" ... which in my view is more relevant. My point is only that management DOES have control over when during the month it reports its earnings and that there is, no doubt, PR strategy involved in such announcements (and as we are all too painfully aware PRE-announcements). Now, it would be helpful if you or others could provide a rationale as to why comparing Q3 to prior Q3 announcement dates is more accurate (e.g., "they always report around July 18th because management is always on vacation after July 22").
