Profit Margins - The higher the profit margin is, the better the company is thought to control costs
"While investors who viewing VZ against other stocks with the reference of profit margin that are Cincinnati Bell Inc. (NYSE:CBB) having profit margin -0.64%, Frontier Communications Corp (NASDAQ:FTR) with 3.35% profit margin, CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE:CTL) having 3.54% profit margin and magicJack VocalTec Ltd (NASDAQ:CALL) having profit margin of 20.15%."
How much of that is from trading their own stock? And, how will profit margin be affected if they stop (as they've said they have)?
That's the trouble with investing in this company. You never have enough information to make informed decisions. They don't disclose renewal rates and active versus inactive customer counts. They've never (as far as I recall) pronounced a release date within an accuracy of 6 months. They juice their revenue with stock trades which increasingly look like manipulation of the market. Simultaneous buyback and diluting secondary offerings.
I'm not saying you can't make money from this stock. But, I don't think it has anything to do with normal business principles like comparing profit margins to other companies.
