From what I see the Carlyle Group is buying 2000 RR tank cars to transport crude from the Dakota area to Philips and is negoatiating to also supply Sunaco's refinery in Philly. If my assumptions are correct 2000 rail tankers should have about 1.05 million barrel capacity. the logistics would be something like 100 cars a day with a 20 day turn around. it's a lot to offload but could be done. dedicated transport might allow for a faster turn around and I am sure the rail folks will be more than eager to strike a deal. Anyone have any info to share?
