    Happy 4th to the board

While I don't agree with most of what Gardner said, I am glad he said it, and I respect him more than those who told him to shut up and get out.

Ol' Socrates called himself a gadfly, and the demagogues and the stupid suckers who believed them voted to get rid of him. But in the swamp you learn it's the flies most of all who get you to move your lazy sorry butt and make make some progress. Out of the swamp too: without flies most of us would be keeping our lazy butts and minds in lawnchairs sipping sugar water and getting more fat and light-headed by the minute.

I prefer the annoying flies to the petty tyrants, the little would-be but unenergetic Stalins, Hitlers, who like the previous two posters just wanna get rid of whatever doesn't please their fat and lazy heads. They are the ones who are unpatriotic and would run this country down into the mud with their puny flabby minds. You two: get down and do some pushups fer yer brains. Now!

    • You poor misguided soul. Im sorry other kids picked on you as a child. It must be hard living with all those emotional scares. It is clear to me you suffer daily, and want so badly to belong to something and most of all to be HEARD. I am sure you have many books in your home you have never read, but pull out references from them at random to try to dazzle lesser minds. Im neither dazzled nor impressed. Im also sure all those old course books from your failed college days sit, ready for your next brainstorm of rebuttals.

You are the quintessential talking head.

I welcome Gardners point of view, and even your uneducated, view of reality. It is when someone like FAN offers their reflections for the 4th, of July, (which is a National Holiday in the US) his/her words are fed back to them it is then, that I take exception to Gardner and yourself.

Now, pull out that thesaurus, or some of those old English literature books form college and find a good phase to can force a reference to. Meanwhile. God Bless the USA right or wrong this is where I choose to call home.

    • Yes I think Gradner has a right to speak his or her mind. I hope your liberal thinking would also permit those of us that love our country and disagree with his statements to speek out. I am old enough to remember my time in the Navy that people that spoke out against the USA got a scrub down with a stiff brush amd their mouth washed out with soap.

PS My apologies to the board. In a much earlier post I promissed I would not take part in this kind of back biting.. When someone talks bad about the USA it really gets with me.

      • That "scrub down with a stiff brush and their mouth washed out with soap" was in the old days and it was done to enlisted men who all were not deemed capable of independent thought which anyway would just confuse and slow 'em down. As a poet said: yours was not to reason why, yours but to do and ... In the loftier ranks you are taught to understand and appreciate your opponents and critics because it's the understanding and the thinking between the cavalry and infantry charges which ultimately wins the war and the peace.
