    Speaking of clinical trials...

I noticed on the clinicaltrials website gOMER's:

"A Randomized Study in Children Ages Birth Through Three Years Undergoing Unilateral Cataract Extraction With or Without Lens Replacement"

Sixty patients? Won't be completed for THREE MORE YEARS? Then I just glanced around to see how many child cataract surgeries are actually done. I found one retrospective study entitled "Glaucoma following cataract surgery in children: surgically modifiable risk factors." The authors rounded up ALL of the cataract surgery done on children between 1995 and 2001. They found that surgeries were done on a TOTAL of 116 eyes from 79 children. Let's years is 84 months, so we're talking about maybe one and a half (ewwwwww!) eyeballs every month?

Doesn't seem like a real intelligent way to spend shareholders money, does it? I mean, so far gOMER hasn't even demonstrated a market for the stuff in adults, so why pour money into a trial where the patient population is near nil? Although I guess it does make a good "talking point" for the next secondary, right? You know, saving all the little childrens' eyeballs and all that...HAW!
