Low unemployment rate in N. Dakota....

The unemployment rate has always been low there. One good reason is that there have never been many good jobs available, so most high school grads moved out of state. A lot of my class of 64 went west to Boeing. They hired everyone that came from N. Dak. They knew if you could put up with 40+ below weather and dollar an hour jobs, you wouldn't mind working weekends and wouldn't complain, like so many of the locals did. At the time i made almost 100 bucks working the weekend at Boeing. More money than any fool deserves. A lot of the grads also went east to Minneapolis/St. Paul. Those were the only places jobs could be found. They never had gas lines in Mandan because the Standard Oil Refinery was just a couple miles north of town.

Oil rigs started popping up around Dickinson about 30 years ago. Most of the oil jobs are in the northern part of the state now, but i suppose that money has to drift down to Bismarck and Mandan.

If we ever want to climb out of this debt sink hole that keeps getting deeper every second, we have to be TOTALLY SELF-SUFFICIENT IN OIL, without a drop coming from anywhere else. Bring some sanity to government and throw out all the bums on both sides of the aisle....
