If they are sitting on over a billion in cash, how can they put that money to good use or distribute it? As an investor I'm unwilling to give them too much credit for sitting on a large amount of cash- I don't want to buy cash with my cash, I want to buy future revenue. If they sit on that money for 10 years and it doesn't grow, then that fraction of the stock price is wasted investment.
So, how can cree put that money to good use? Return it as a dividend? Or use it to acquire another company?
I would rather see CREE use the cash for new product development along with strategic acquisitions. A dividend is meaningless imo. Who wants a few cents per share every quarter when they could put the money to better use growing the business?
I'm a fairly new CREE investor, but I have used their LED products. I've known about the company since the late 90's or earlier when they were first developing their blue/white LEDs...wish I'd bought stock back then. When the stock dropped recently on ridiculous scare tactics, I jumped in because I saw it as a great opportunity to invest.
