I thought that I would do a little comparison on INTUIT's holdings, those that are contained in their 10Q and that are trading currently, to add a little substance to my concerns about this coming quarter. Keep in mind that there is still one full month to go in their current quarter.
Verisign (VRSN) at the end of Jan. 01 was $75/share, they are currently trading at $35 7/16/share as of the end of Mar. 01. 724 Solutions (SVNX) at the end of Jan. 01 was $25/share, they are now at $10/share as of the end of Mar. 01. Checkfree (CKFR) at the end of Jan. 01 was $55/share and are now at $29 7/16/share as of the end of Mar. 01. Insurance Web (INSW) at the end of Jan. 01 was $1.75/share and is now at $1 3/16/share as of the end of Mar. 01.
These are significant losses in the valuations of their holdings, which they report on a quarterly basis. I think you now have a better appreciation for my concerns about the upcoming quarter.
Their holdings could in fact get better in the course of the upcoming month of trading, but then again they could get worse.
With everything else going on with the economy, relative to PC sales, slow sales of Quicken Books, slow sales of Turbo Tax, and a general slowdown in new housing (loans), I just can't see this being a banner quarter for INTUIT.
ok, I went through the 10Q and yes..they hold volitile tech stocks..so even more to worry about..I just added more Wed. so for now I'm holding tight..There's times when I think of how I could have reduced my position @ 45 and instead thought it would be worth more...so now I've added..I'll be keeping a close eye on this.I've always liked INTU, sold my position once in 97...I still like it but the times are a changing..This tech wreck plays hell on everything..dig deep on your DD..Thanx for the info and bringing your concerns to light maurice. and to think I could have stayed in oil services..but the techs looked so tempting.if we get a runup I'll trade out of some and lower my cost on the shares I intend to hold..hopefully no surprises..like the sudden drop we just went through....<REGARDS>
I had the same concerns last year. but the way i understand it, they are not about to sell their positions so they won't have any loss to report. but Santora's explanations are far from being clear. on the other hand those guys here: http://biz.yahoo.com/hd/i/intu.html can read these numbers and understand them better than i... keep faith.
