By all indications, my order was placed before their screen went all "BACKORDERED".
If it's a pile of junk, I'll be throwing it back at DirecTV and going over to the cable company, which no longer trails in HD channels and is compatible with full-featured TiVo boxes.
BTW, here's the deal you get: $199+tax to get the HD receiver, plus $6/month lease fee, which is $0/month if it's your primary receiver (same as any other DirecTV receiver), plus $5/month for TiVo subscription, plus the basic and premium content charges. No mention of lifetime TiVo subscriptions, though if you have an old-school DirecTV-TiVo unit with lifetime service, it may be possible to port it to this unit. This is considered a lease, so the $199 is sunk cost, and if you cancel your DirecTV service you have to send the box back. But the $5/month is a considerable discount to TiVo's current $19.99 monthly/$499 lifetime rates.
But still, that's $5/month for a TV guide. The rest of the box's functionality had better come out kicking butt from day one.
The report of the defeatured interface is not giving me any hope.
