ABS, are you old enough to remember the world wide negative attitudes towards "America" during the late 60's and 70's. The negativity was based on our social and economic power which appeared to smother the rest of the world. Everywhere you turned it was American clothes, American cars, American food, American culture (except the Beatles) infiltrating the old and new world societies.
The rest of the free world resented the americanization of their native countries. There was quite a backlash against "american" products. The war in Vietnam, and the Arab Israeli conflict and the cold war with USSR combined with our global economic power created quite a backlash of anti-american sentiment.
The modern Chinese bashers seem to be on the same path as the USA bashers of 30 years ago don't you think ?
