Oy vay iz mir! Of course you get the stock split!
The stock would have gone down by 50% on 8/3 if all those who bought after 8/3 would not get the stock split.
Someone is making fun of you.
A bit presumptuous of you railnstocks. You have no idea of any of my tendencies. Good Lord! In fact I do believe I posted on the BNI board about buying some CSX a long time prior to the split. This all being said, I sure wish I had pulled the short trigger on the rails, I would have had some beautiful swing trades. But...I did not short any of the rails.
Did short HANS...and am REAL GLAD I pulled that trigger.
I own some csx and considered buying more. I was unclear about split issues and called my low cost
broker. As an aside, she said that "sophisticated investors usually do not buy between the x date and split date." If so, it would seem that a soon to be split stock is artificially low during the period.
I wanted to get your thoughts. CSX is a good long-term buy to me, yet I am concerned about consumer cyclicals in any sector now.
Here's a simple way to understand record dates and splitx.
Owners of the stock as of the record date get the split. People who buy later get the split because they are buying the shares from a seller who held the stock as of the record date. The stock purchase gives the new owner all rights of the stock.
Again, that's what CNNMoney.com reported on July 18, 2006 (you can follow the link and read the whole story). I sure hope Ameritrade people know that stuff better than CNN!..
The stock split will be for all shareholders of record on August 3, 2006 with a distribution date of August 15, 2006.
The $0.10 post-split quarterly dividend on the company's common stock to shareholders of record as of August 25, 2006, is payable on September 15, 2006.
Sorry, railroadpj! You were right: " The stock split will be for all shareholders of record on August 3, 2006 with a distribution date of August 15, 2006."
