State Police say a 5-year-old in Cumberland County accidentally shot and killed his little sister.
Troopers say it happened around 1:00pm Tuesday at a home on Lawson's Bottom Road.
According to Cumberland County Coroner Gary White, the mother was home at the time of the shooting and had just stepped outside onto the porch "for no more than three minutes" when the shooting happened.
Investigators say the 5-year-old was playing with a .22 caliber rifle when he accidentally shot his 2-year-old sister.
White says the rifle was kept in a corner of the home and the family had not realized it still had a shell in it.
Detectives say the girl was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The coroner says the shooting will be ruled accidental, and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
