just like I posted a few days ago.
I sold mine at 47 and will wait till those terrible earnings come out to buy back in 30s.
This co is so screwed up they are offering mgnt.at all levels free money(as much as 250,000$) just to leave.
Wait till contract time when union members ask for their piece of the pie.
Now I understand why the big three and all those bank and financial outfits mgnt.think they deserve the big bucks to.
Read up on the French revolution because it's coming to America.
It looks to me that the company is nearly broke: They have 34 billion in debt and less than 1 billion in cash. How much of that debt comes due in 2009? There appears to be a solvency issue here unless they have financing that I don't know about.
Plus they will be dependent on exporting and the dollar is much stronger than this time last year. And the dollar weakened dramatically in Q1 & Q2 so if it stays strong they are going to get crushed on earnings going forward.
I'm surprised you haven't figured out that Cat did that in order to make the descision to retire easier for those that were already ready to go. They were just sharing the wealth with the folks who've help make the company the survivor it is today. Cat will come out of this smelling like a rose because they are smart.
If you carefully read my post you would see that this money handout is not just to retire but to leave period.
Even the new kids just hired have been offered money and many are leaving to go back to school. I was told this by a senior supervisor. He also stated that he has never heard of cat doing this before in all his years.
Also I read somewhere yesterday that cat had promised jobs to many college kids and was now taking back the offers and handing out checks for 1'000$ for the inconvience.
If I can find the link I will post it.
What makes you think cat is so smart?
Cat is big like GM but has a near monopoly on their product established many years ago.
I also read that China will in the not to distant future directly compete with Cat for it's business. They are probably working on this as we speak.
So don't kid yourself about to big to fail.
