My wife and I just discussed this. I was surprised at how generous the offer was; I thought Cat would ask for wage cuts. My wife said there were a 100,000 people who would apply for these 800 jobs. I feel sorry for the union workers; they have no power and don't realize it.
The union is ignorant, the only way to bring CAT to it's knees is for all union members, at all locations, to strike at once. The piece meal approach is not working...kind of wonder if the union leadership is just stupid or in the pockets of the corporation. They sure aren't looking out for the working man.
Of course I was not in attendance. However, I have past experience as a representative/elected officer of four different unions and later in labor relations in a management position. I assume even though the press phrased it a 'tentative agreement' the union leadership advised a rejection at their meeting.
