    toyota recall a sweet positive

about a year ago I was at a ABG function and they off handedly mentioned that they LOVE recalls, as long as they don't hurt the brand. In other words, if there is a recall to fix faulty brakes (and it surfaces after there have been fatalities) then that is a BAD recall, but when the recall is something that is relatively minor, they make money 3 ways: First they get paid by the company for the recall itself; Second, many cars end up getting other service items taken care of at the same time, from a quick oil change to a complete brake job since the brakes are 75k miles old; Third, it brings people into the dealership and most people take the time to at least glance at the new models. If the brand is not harmed by the recall, then they are more than likely to replace their old car with a newer model from the same manufacturer.

So with Toyota's recall of over 7 million vehicles (the second largest recall in automotive history) for a drivers side electric window issue (I would consider this to be a very minor issue vis a vis the reputation of the "brand")...and with Toyota being one of the largest nameplates in the Asbury stable..this classifies as the "perfect" kind of recall for ABG
