The new 2004 Antivirus software includes a bunch of crap nobody wants and you can't uninstall it with editing the registry. And then they have the gall to jack up the prices by 50%!! On top of this, Dell installs it incorrectly so you have to uninstall the whole package and reinstall it (sorry you can't just reinstall the antivirus software -- you get all the crap too) to get it to update the Virus software alone.
They still have the best antivirus software but how disappointing to see the mess that is 2004. I buy for a lot of PCs and we are looking for another solution.
You shouldn't be in the registry trying to uninstall unless you know what your doing! Uninstalling thru the registry is not the first option to uninstall the program. You should get some qualified help if you have trouble installing. Professional help can have it done for you in 15 minutes.
Yeah, well I know what I am doing. Check out the Symantec site -- you can't uninstall the Internet Security without uninstalling the Antivirus if you use the add/remove program in the control panel. Nor do you have a choice to just install the antivirus software when you reinstall it. This is unforgivable. The consumer should always have the choice.
Now that Dell installed it incorrectly (and it will be on every new pc they sell since they ghost their drives) so you can't update the virus software alone is not really Symantec's fault. But it is all a result of Symantec adding junk and trying to force customers to take it so they can jack up the price. They are getting greedy and that doesn't bode well for the company. We are looking at another solution as I imagine many other people will be.
