Yeah, well I know what I am doing. Check out the Symantec site -- you can't uninstall the Internet Security without uninstalling the Antivirus if you use the add/remove program in the control panel. Nor do you have a choice to just install the antivirus software when you reinstall it. This is unforgivable. The consumer should always have the choice.
Now that Dell installed it incorrectly (and it will be on every new pc they sell since they ghost their drives) so you can't update the virus software alone is not really Symantec's fault. But it is all a result of Symantec adding junk and trying to force customers to take it so they can jack up the price. They are getting greedy and that doesn't bode well for the company. We are looking at another solution as I imagine many other people will be.
Humm..Methinks the consumer HAS a choice. Buy the bundled package, NIS, or...Symantec sells a standalone NAV and a standalone Personal Firewall. If all you want to do is run the AV, then buy just the AV product, or disable the firewall if you install the bundled NIS. Why anyone would pay the extra for the NIS bundle and then only want to run the NAV is questionable enough....
This is what comes with the free 3 month trial from Dell. My My are we paying for that trial. You can disable the NIS product but you can't uninstall it. And even disabled it nags you to update it. I repeat it sucks!
