Not since Micheal Jordan has a NBA player flip the world of marketing and consumer purchasing into a whole new level. Anything that had Jordon on it was bought up. But has any player after Jordon... Rose, Shaq, Kobe, LeBron, etc. done the same. Sure they sell a lot of jerseys locally but what about beyond that? I'm sure Dirk's jersey got a boost after Dallas won the championship last year. But that is normal. I'm talking about toothbrushes, underwear, and soda commercials. There will be LA fans buying up Kobe jerseys but what about the rest of the world? Are people in Toronto buying up Kobe or LeBron jerseys? NOPE. But they ARE buying up Lin jerseys. This kind of marketing potential hasn't that transcends the local economy and goes global hasn't been seen since Jordon. Expect to see Lin jerseys on the other side of the world and maybe even in India. Not even Yao Ming did that. If you want to market and reach out to billions of Chinese people, make a commercial with Lin in it. Nike, McDonalds, Gatorade, or any big boys should be throwing millions on his lap to sponsor him. Maybe soem of those sponsors who dropped Tiger Woods should jump on board. With a humble Christian background, Lin should have no problems with the trouble that Woods got himself into.
