Upon doing some research, it is true that this company has been a rumored takeover for the past year or two. Each time it seemed that they came out and DENIED the rumor. However, I do not see that they have denied any rumors yet.
If a company were to buy them out, it seems like it would be much more than $55 a share. The company produces high grade met coal for steel companies. Growth is expected in China infrastructure next year and many analysts believe that coal has bottomed. Also, some analysts believe that WLT is now very undervalued. I could see some companies offering a stock swap for WLT outstanding shares since there is only about 93 million OS. If BHP did this, it would barely make a difference to their OS and they could keep their cash. This would give WLT a buyout of about $6 or $7 billion, I believe.
