GDT is a good company, a competitor of MDT. You might want to stay with MDT and look at another competitor of GDT, that being Arterial Vascular Engineering (AVEI). IMHO, with MDT and AVEI you would have eggs in different baskets, but also have the leaders in GDT fields. BTW, I like AVEI, MDT, BSX and GDT, in that order.
Earlier this year, Value Line also was ho-hum on MDT, indicating it's stock value took into account the projected profit growth for the next couple of years. It was 55 at the time. I watched it slip down to 48 or so. I held in spite of the Value Line outlook. Now it's jumped to the 69 neighborhood. I've held this stock for (only) a couple of years, but it has a track record of big jumps either way in one day, sliding downwards a bit (to get rid of the bears?) and then - ZOOM! - a sudden upward push. For the long-term minded, it's paid off beautifully.
