times of london talk of 45 dollar bid rumors see below
That sort of trader who feels compelled to whisper at least one takeover rumour day-in, day-out, wanted to talk about Hexel, an American company that makes bits for aircraft, wind turbines and sports cars. EADS, the European aerospace group, and BAE Systems were thinking about offering as much as $45 for shares trading below $25, they said eagerly.
This rumor does not really make sense. When was the last time an OE bought a material business? If eads bought HXL, they would risk losing all of HXL's boeing business, (40% of revenues?). BAE might be a bit more likely, and they've been buying lots of companies in the USA. But again i'm not sure how much sense it would make. And if I was a BAE shareholder I'd be #$%$ if they're buying companies in such an uncertain environment for defense, especially at the multiple implied by $45/share.
