Caught me off guard, this is huge news and not many peopel know about it yet.

So SODA has plugged away pretty impressively up to now with the business as is. What I use my sodastream for and many others is just the carbonation ( straight fizzy water ). The reason? The tastes of the syrups is not something I enjoyed with Orange, and Ginger ale being decent but still nothing to write about, unless you like the fake splenda taste of what they use to sweeten. Sure still some don't mind the fake sugar taste and you have where SODA is today.

The wife gets home yesterday and says ohh I saw something interesting while grocery shopping. FLAVORS WITH REAL CANE SUGAR AND NOT THAT FAKE #$%$. Some of the ones she saw were Ginger ale , Orange, Root beer, Cola, Lemon Lime and a few others.....

I am sure many here will realize how big this is and will be in the upcoming quarters after tomorrow. It is the surprise that will blow next quarters estimates out of the water unless they acknowledge, guide and talk about it in the upcoming days.

If like me you really couldn't stand the fake tastes, you might realize how much revenue this will bring in! Remember SODA has been doing remarkably well even with alienating a huge part of the customer base that uses their machines daily!

I have not yet gone to the store to see what she was talking about but after further digging I was getting worried that she might have read the display wrong and in fact they all still contain splenda. Maybe the display said no with cane sugar or something similar and she never read the ingredients..

Then I stumbled on this entry on the Wegman's site - Soda Stream Soda Mix, Cola

and under ingredients in the description it says -

Sugar, Water, Caramel Coloring, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Natural Flavor, Caffeine.

Anyways, I hope to get to the store within a day or so to look at the actual bottle in case it was a misprint. As every other mention of sodastream soda syrups has mentioned that vial artificial stuff up until today.

If you want to go look for yourselves wegmans has online store browser complete with descriptions/pictures etc.... try to never take what people say on here without checking it. In this case you an see for yourseleves.

ok a little further digging- I guess in fact the Cola mentioned above does have the correct omission of artificial sweeteners as per a lengthy review I found elsewhere. the snippet is below

Next is a bottle of Cola! This is Naturally Sweetened with Cane Sugar. This bottle is bigger than the ones previous, yet it makes only 6 liters. This soda contains no artificial flavors, no artificial sweeteners, and no preservatives. We tried this a few times, and the first time we all thought it was very weak. It didn’t taste like actual soda at all… but I think we didn’t fill the cap enough. Tonight we had it once again, and it was great! It still tasted a little off, but we need to remember it’s naturally sweetened…

I guess I must have not explained myself well enough. The old ingredients for example of Ginger Ale would have sugar as the first ingredient and then splenda later down the list. For me I never got why they would add splenda at all if using real sugar at the same time. It would just give me sugar with the added horrible taste of splenda. Now yes some people don't mind splenda, but others like myself it was a deal breaker.

HERE IS THE WHOLE POINT, that must have been my fault in articulating... the new ingredients I believe don't contain any splenda. This is the product I would buy now that I wouldn't previously. It is now an option to have a syrup that doesn't contain splenda. I will be buying a few now and most likely continue buying now that the the option to buy without splenda is available.

The person that kept arguing with me was correct they always had sugar. However, for me and I assume a good % the splenda taste made it a non purchase. Like I said I would sit there and read the ingredients and couldn't find one without splenda. I wasn't clear when I said they now have them with sugar..... they always had them with sugar.. but now with an option of no splenda.

I am sure most here know that there is a pretty good % of the population who can't stand artificial sweetener tastes. This opens a huge segment with the new sans splenda option.

    • Can I please clarify what is being said here. I appreciate Gino's enthusiasm and to clarify, he's speaking in regards to SodaStream Naturals. The larger bottles flavored with ONLY natural cane sugar, much higher calorie count and sugar count. Also more expensive. It would be (somewhat) easy to overlook these options on most displays if you didn't know what you were looking for. What he was referring to with artificial sweeteners is true, not sure why everyone jumped on him about this. The majority of SODA flavors contain BOTH cane sugar and sucralose (Splenda) which is what gives them 1/3 the calories of traditional shelf soda. Yes, there is no high fructose corn syrup used in any SODA flavors, but Gino was not stating this. Dude was just happy his wife found an all natural cane sugar option. Geez. I personally like those better too, the Naturals Root Beer is insanely good. Like IBC good. The only thing he was wrong about was that these have been available for quite a while and certainly are not going to be game changing, BUT I certainly feel upcoming expanded stevia lines WILL be. Happy SODA Earnings Eve! Stay thirsty my friends. -PK
