A few questions related to costs if you don't mind
I have followed REFR for years due to a friend's recommendation and purchased a few shares a year ago and purchased a bunch more fairly recently, avg cost/share just under $5. To me it seems as if it could be on the verge of really breaking out as far as its financial performance is concerned if a few good things happen to it. It is such a very small company with only about a dozen employees so it won't take much revenue to start to show significant earnings. While this is my first post on this board, I have watched it occasionally for a long time.
My biggest questions revolve around how much does incorporating REFR's technology add to the cost of glass? The reason I ask is because I would think if this could get into a significant portion of construction such as houses, office buildings etc, it would create huge opportunities. I know living in the desert where the heat of the sun in the summer is very intense, I would love to have REFR's technology in every window of my house and I am wondering why it isn't commonplace?
Does anyone know how much it adds to the cost of the cars? If we are getting between $100-150 for each car it is incorporated into, does that mean it is adding at least $1,000 to the cost of the standard sunroof? That seems very steep to me and could be the limiting factor for mass market adoption. Would there be significant economies of scale derived from mass market adoption if it was incorporated into all/most of the cars or is this technology just that costly to produce?
ND, I no longer have any OLED and have only owned it a couple of times for relatively short time periods. Same friend who likes REFR also likes OLED but I just don't have the same enthusiasm for it at these prices. Don't like all the patent issues it might have like the recent EU decision. Are there more decisions like that to come? I definitely should have held my first shares bought years ago in single digits (also sold in single digits) so I made a very bad investment move on that one. For the most part, right now I am more into biotech these days but I finally took a decent sized position (for me) in REFR and need to do more dd. I like the recent move but am concerned about its staying power at these levels unless we get some news. I normally take a very long term approach to investing and don't mind waiting it out as long as I think there is long term potential.
I like the risk/reward with REFR much better than OLED as long as it can turn the corner and start to generate meaningful revenue. I haven't been able to find anything about the relative cost compared to non SPD glass and thought someone here might be able to point me in the right direction. I guess I should just contact the company as you suggested and I will keep digging. glta
Don't you think the company would be the appropriate source for your questions?
It's very simple. You go to their web site, which is smartglass and click on investors. On the left hand side there is a list. Click on "Contact us" They are extremely accommodating and you can even schedule a visit to their offices. Welcome aboard!
