bgg is being ripped apart by top mgmt. They are driving off their old salary folks by reducing their retirement benefits if they don't retire before 12/31/07. They are also adding in a new bonus plan for a key 26 employees for the next 3 yrs. Looks like bgg won't make EVA for the next 3 yrs and the big boys still want a bonus. Check out the 8-k filings in august. It states that bgg is in transition from an engine manufacture to an engine and end product provider.
It is true... MTD products are moving away from using Briggs engines. They have switched to Chinese made engines for many of the walk behinds and Kohlers for many of their riding tractors. This is (or should be) a concern for Briggs executives; MTD was one of their largest customers up until a year or two ago (along with Murray who is now nearly extinct since Briggs bought them). The executives are too focused on how much bonus they will receive to realize this is a major issue for the longevity of the company.
