It is corrected now, in the historical price section.
It was never the withholding tax; that applies every year, but Yahoo showed the prior year dividends at the pre-withholding amount. The lower amount was just a mistake.
But I don't think it was Yahoo's mistake. Someone at work told me on Monday that Jim Cramer on CNBC had commented on NVS's reduced dividend this year. So someone in the news business presumably had the wrong amount and people picked it up.
Thanks. Also, I thought I saw somewhere else where 1.64 was reported and thought, as a longtime NVS holder, this was definitely wrong. If you take the normal Swiss foreign withholding of 35% of 2.53 you get $1.64 - so it might have started with some reporter or stockholder from a non tax treaty country. I hope the Swiss themselves don't pay this. In any case, I wish Yahoo would also correct the amount shown on the main NVS page .
Would seem like it, but in this case 15% (the Swiss tax per the US/Switzerland tax treaty) so would be about $2.16. Besides, you get this back (most taxpayers) when you file your 1040 as a tax credit. But Yahoo needs to fix this to reflect the $2.50 or so real dividend.
