A bit of a change to the verbage:

On October 26, 2011 the Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (“SUSEP”) attempted to serve National Western with a subpoena regarding an administrative proceeding initiated by SUSEP in which it alleged that National Western was operating as an insurance company in Brazil without due authorization. National Western had been informed that SUSEP was attempting to impose a penal fine, based on currency exchange rates at that time, of approximately $6.0 billion on the company. SUSEP unsuccessfully attempted to serve National Western with notice regarding this matter. National Western does not transact business
in Brazil and has no officers, employees, property, or assets in Brazil. National Western believes that SUSEP has no jurisdiction over the company, that SUSEP's attempts at service of process were invalid, and that any penal fine would be unenforceable. In addition, a new law recently enacted in Brazil would limit the amount of any penal fine to 3 million reais (approximately $800,000 based on current exchange rates). For the reasons described above, the Company does not believe that this matter meets the definition of a material pending legal proceeding as such term is defined in Item 103 of Regulation S-K but has included the
foregoing description solely due to the purported amount of the fine sought at that time. Nonetheless, National Western is in discussions with SUSEP in an effort to resolve this matter. No conclusion can be drawn at this time as to the outcome of these discussions, or whether they will continue, or how any such outcome may impact the Company’s business, results of operations, or financial condition. However, in light of the pendency of discussions with Brazilian authorities, National Western has ceased
accepting new applications from residents in Brazil.

    Wow wealth destruction in force.

Maybe they can get this back to 150.

If that happens, they'll probably have the Moody celebration fireworks.

NWLi getting smoked on a day when the rest of the market is up 1.5%.

The Moody despots have a lot to answer for,. They have continually destroyed shareholder value and have done nothing to set the company on a better path.

When are the public shareholders going to hold them accountable?

Off well over 8% in 3 days.

What a wonderful company. Here's a quote from their website, which obviously does NOT apply to shareholders:

"We do not believe our policyholders should suffer sleepless nights, tossing and turning, worried about uncertainty in retirement. At American Equity, we believe in a good night’s sleep. We provide “Sleep Insurance”.

What a joke. If I had an annuity with them I'd be very worried.

11k shares traded today already, down 5 points.

Someone wants out, and I can't say I blame them.

Annual report honors the old man, a child of the depression. Lord know how that screwed him up, no wonder hoarding cash is a hallmark of NWLI.

What a farce. Decades of abusing the public shareholder. Wow.

    Sentiment: Strong Sell

  • Nothing new here. This company is basically worth zero because of pitiful management and a hand-picked board.

For all the cheerleaders out there who say "management does a good job" and blah, blah, blah, please tell me if the management is so good then why this is only worth 42% of book value? It is a clear sign of what the market thinks.

Book value might as well be $10,000 per share. The market simply doesn't care because the management and board refuse to do anything for the public shareholders. They are despots.

  • "AEL is plunging again".

This is the worst run life / annuity company. Down almost 50% from its 52-week high.

Need to shake up the management and board here or just sell the company.

All the cheerleaders here can look at the fact that even with such a huge price drop, there is no insider buying. Of course they get all their free shares via options, but if they thought any rebound was going to happen they would be buying. This is dead money.

NWLI down today while the rest of the market, and lifeco's, are soaring.

And I'm not talking about today's 7% beat down.

The genius minds at AEL still have the forward stock sale still out there waiting to be exercised.

That will further dilute the shareholders here by another 5 million shares.

Can't wait to see how far the stock will fall when that happens.

That's a bit better than the $6,000,000,000 original fine.

Plunging again like the #$%$ it is.
