With all of the new construction there I find it hard to believe they kept it. Especially with the new Frediert medical facility going up next door.
The comments on Marinio "retiring" in the JSOnline were all pretty bad. Including several comments of not seeing any improvements since the buy out.
Hah! I just stopped by a local hang out to pick up a take out order. The discussion between the older barflys was "when is Kroger going to so something to improve PNS?", I joined in the discussion and it seems that most have migrated to other stores.
As I had time, it was a nice day, and I needed some items for the 4th, I chose a dozen name brand items (actually 20, disqualified any item on special) and did the local rounds for fun for comparison. First of all, the two PNS stores I visited I would not have shopped at due to the lines trying to check out. Still lacking staff. Also hit woodman's, two Pigs (Neither Fox, two Sendiks,Meijer's, and didn't dare go into a local save-a-lot. Skipped both Metros in my area. Long story short, in order for prices from low to high - Woodman's (DUH!), Meijer's, The Pigs and Sendiks were close with the Pig winning just by pennies, but with Sendiks having better service. PNS came in last as you would expect, but two of the dozen items PNS did beat Sendiks. But for the service, I would pay the pennies until PNS actually staffs up. In terms of serivice(check outs primarily, subjective) (high to low) Sendiks, Meijers/the Pigs (tie) Woodman's, PNS. When the Metro first opened in Mequon, they were tops, but that day has sadly passed. Their first two cheese mongers were awesome! But both left quickly. I still give Woodman's the lowest score on their meats. Sendiks good but expensive. PNS inbetween the two Pigs I visited, Meijers gets a good. If we are talking walk in for pre-done hot meals, I suppose I have to give that to Metro. They also get decent marks for breads (but Meijer's is close and cheaper). Woodman's gets lower marks for their cheap produce, PNS/PIG about the same. The Mequon Metro I would put on par with Meijer's, except that Meijer's is far more inexpensive. Sendiks I waffle about - good produce, not always the best prices. Anyway - the end result is that I feel that Krogr's still has a lot of work to do on PNS. As margins increase and they actually staff up, (obviously close a lot of stores) they will still be i the game. Next tie this year as Festival has more stores open close to me, they will be added into the mix.
Care to fill us in on the closings and remodels?
I'm glad that you are seeing improvements. I certainly do not in the stores I spot check.
No improvement that I have seen in WI. Not any worse, but they were scraping the bottom or the barrel anyway having been stripped for Chicago. What has surprised me is that several of the folks that were praising the shorewood Metro Market now are not going out of their way any more to shop there.
Just as an FYI, I had just called the wife an hour ago to pick up a couple of items before she went to her writer's group tonight. I got a call that the Roundy's was too backed up with only two lanes open and she would go to Meijers later.
And Roundys still can't staff their stores.
Once again, my friends did a huge hate on PNS, Metro, etc. only not hate was shorewood as that is staffed. I did hear bad oysters though. I cannot ascertain that gripe as I refuse to deal with parking there.
