for many years , it was custom for cities to have horse manure all over the place , dumps did not exist
and everything was thrown into streams and rivers .. that changed and so have a lot of other cultural
that will give them a big , one time charge for 2016 and reduce tax burden ...
if IBM , or any other company looking to reinvent itself and build new markets , should need more human
resources , not trimming the workforce ....
IBM continues to be in survival mode ... only solution is to absolutely break itself up and become a smaller
as for attracting new human resources ... nobody in tech is looking to hire 30 somethings and the
younger candidates have far sexier options than to join up with a flailing company .. .garce
i wouldn't go back that far ..
in 1982 .. it was the US Govt that was throttling IBM .. with that insidious Xerox case .. IBM was bound on
all sides and limited to it's iron production for business , instead of developing new businesses ..
a relative of mine was a corp lawyer for IBM and he told me that during that period , IBM was giving away
crown jewels in the form of selling / licensing patents for things that they could not use or risk the
govt breaking them .... the culture that was created during those years was not able to change once
Ronald Reagan took off the treasury shackles ... gar
we have to have anything signifigant come out of the asm's ...
i'm looking for something out of the convention this weekend ... they should be showcasing their best ... garce
new rumour has it that Bill also touched a few men and even a couple of crossovers ... no news on family
pets yet ...
it's the big funds who must(sic) react to hourly / daily events ... for the long term investor , it's just white
noise ... current sentiment is sell off dividend plays , expecting bond rates to rise ..........
in my view , it's a huge mistake for a number of issues ...
some of these companies that have historically been seen as div plays will shock the funds by actually
growing and growing large .... most pharma is in this category , as well as T and VZ telecoms and
GE as an industrial play .. some of the "stodgy old , mature , commoditized , div plays" will show out to
be growth plays ... garce
hard to find any board that has not been hijacked .. the pity is that there are plenty of discussion boards and
blogs that cover all of the social topics ... it's things like this , that make me insensitive to all the carping
about everything but BMY (or whatever stock) and economic matters that affect the stock ...
people deserve what they get or don't get ... no wonder politicians and corporation run roughshod over
constituencies / customers ... garce
Looks like DPD didn't make it on the 2 x 2's .. still , it's nice to see that we are ready to roll with the DPD
and probably close enough to 2 x 2 ... maybe we'll see some sp rise next week from display week buzz ?
does anyone feel that a Tier 1 might be trying for a b/o instead of partnership , which may be why the
current tier 1 seems to be Godot ?
just listen to the talking heads ... the US has an opioid epidemic .. i doubt that there are very many
illegals coming in with those problems ...
we have such a great system hear .. most employers and the govt . test job applicants for drug use ...
too bad the only ones those test catch are pot smokers , as alcohol and coke and heroin are out of
the system in 24 hours , but smoke a joint and fail the test a week later ... g
wow .... looks like you are one of those neo-ignorants who never cracked a history book ...
how much do you think that the first 10 presidents spent ? no tv , no radio , just
posters and buttons ... g
caught an interview last night with a Trump protege .. she couldn't praise him enough , but
since she is a Dem , she won't vote for him ..
i expect many more women , who actually know DT, to start to be heard .. .g
of course not .. the problem with the media and general electorate is that they have the attention span
of a fruit fly and do not study history ...
big difference in the US today ,however ... looking back , there were a lot of deaths involved , as the
populaces regurgitated all of the great programs of their leaders ...
been wondering the same .. not so much volume yesterday , but today different ... maybe the PFE deal
took some quid from BMY ? i dunno ... garce
Brk is not different than any mutual fund ... as it grows , the investing ops shrink and money starts to
go into sinkholes ....
wow ... talk about clarity ... we've seen the estimates range all over the place by 2018 , 2020 , 2025 ..
anywhere from 11 b to 200 b .....
and what about that list ? does BAE and Rockwell make their own displays ?
i really don't see cost of raw wafers to be such a % of overall costs ... it'sthe processing and yields that
are going to drive signifigant savings , but that's a long way down the road .. we are going to keep seeing
new and better chips , but lower yields .. it's the way things work in early phases ...
for the next few years , the biggest key will be thruputs ... as thruputs rise signifigantly , they override
low yields on cutting edge products ... that will plateau , eventually , then improving yields become
the dominant cost reduction ...
as long as you are making the best mousetrap , the yield deficiencies are mitigated by manner of
being able to charge high enough prices to make up for the losses ... g
both will need content ... neither has very much at this time .. i don't see deal .... I could see
Google considering Time Warner , if they are looking spend a ton of quid ... g
