Geely Auto, the Chinese carmaker that owns Volvo as well as the maker of London’s iconic black taxis, raised $400m to fund development of an electric taxi for the UK capital
Indeed the volume has been preettty fickle, but I the heavy voiume days as evidence of good things to come as news and company events spells out positives to the investment world, we see heavy buying for those who believe in Geely's future.
I know this could sound PollyAnna-ish, but Geely has been building product, steamlining profit margins, and making/building partnerships for a while now, so I believe they are on the cusp of bigger and better.
I am staying long - long - long............
Though not considered the behemoth in the personal computing space as Intel, AMD is a decisive runner-up—and arguably the only true competitor Intel has in this domain. After spending much of the early to middle 2000's as being the performance and value leader with their Athlon 64 line of personal computing processors, AMD—unable to mimic this success in more recent years, has shifted their focus towards both enthusiast and budget-oriented system configurations. As a result, AMD is considered to be a viable alternative to Intel. Their current offerings are flanked by the Phenom series processors and Fusion APU processors. The Fusion APU (AMD A-Series) is a relatively new platform (as of 2011 and ongoing) that attempts to merge high-end graphical capabilities on the same chip as the processor. This means if your work or play requires a powerful graphics card, then AMD can potentially offer a cost effective alternative.
Wow - a big needle mover. The tip of the iceberg and when coupled with the China agreement, it could really begin to be a needle mover..........
Volvo Cars and its Chinese owner Geely are looking to deepen co-operation as each prepares to launch their first small cars based on common platform.
Driverless technologies connectivity, engines and gearboxes are some of the areas the two companies want to explore, senior managers from both companies said.
Li Shufu, chairman of both Geely and Volvo, told the Financial Times he hoped the Chinese mass-market brand and Swedish premium manufacturer could jointly develop autonomous driving and internet technologies.
“For these kinds of things, there is no need to develop technologies independently,” he added.
His comments come just after Volvo unveiled two concepts of small cars based on a platform jointly developed with Geely. The Chinese group will present its cars later this year before both start selling them in 2017.
Both carmakers sell about half a million cars each and have struggled with getting economies of scale because of their small size. The small car segment is particularly competitive and price-sensitive so the two companies set up a joint research and development centre in Volvo’s home town of Gothenburg.
Peter Mertens, Volvo’s head of R&D, said: “Of course, there is a potential to do more in certain areas.” He pointed to the powertrain and transmission as two possible co-operation areas.
