A physician told me recently that more people in the United States now die from heart disease than from cancer. A reduction in the smoking rate in this country is a partial reason for the change.
tonofelephant, thank you for the informative feedback. I guess the fact that DRAD is a small company of about 300 employees and is paying such a handsome dividend is suspicious to me. Why are they so generous? I do see that they have been around since 1985. Therefore, they are not a "fly-by-night" operation. I will have to obtain more financial data on the company before investing in them. My Supreme Commander, my wife, has just informed me that I now must get ready to take three grandchildren to the zoo. Thanks again. Have a good say.
Hello tonofelephant. I guess I am missing something with Digirad. Since 7/27/16, DRAD has pulled back from $6.01 to $5.03, with 554 shares going off at $4.95 today in after hours today. Its 52-week high is $6.92. Honest Jim Cramer has a target of $6.55 on it. Its typical daily volume is less than 100,000 shares with a mean daily volume of about 65,000 shares. What is it with DRAD that you find attractive? Thanks.
Back in the early 1980's, there was a couple from Greece that moved into our middle class suburban neighborhood. They had two children. The husband worked at a farmer's market about 20 miles away on the east side of Detroit. They started having their prescriptions filled at my wife's Rite Aid store. My wife would often came home complaining how they were on some Federal program, whereby they got a lot of miscellaneous items with food stamps and got their Rx's for free. The female would buy booze and tobacco with cash. My wife never reported them, but instead took her frustration out on me with the complaining. This went on for several years until we moved. Our tax dollars were hard at work!
Against my better judgment, I started to subsribe to Bar*ron's again last September. I received a post card from them in the mail yesterday, advising me that my new annual rate would be $223, starting on 9/20/16. I am presently paying $149.88. I called them this morning and was advised by a rep that the new rate is not negotiable. I then mentioned that I view an increase of 49% as excessive and then said good by. My key point: I will never understand the marketing strategy of really sticking it to customers the longer they stay with you. The prodigies at AT*T do the same thing.
The only new stuff I'll buy right now is FTR. Got a thousand shares this morning at $4.80. I'm willing to dollar cost average it down by multiples of a dime up to three or four thousand shares.
I'm glad that you mentioned FTR. It served as a reminder. I sold it back on 6/20/16. It goes ex-dividend on 9/13/16. Will buy some for the anticipated quarterly divy run up. Per AMTD, short interest as of 7/29/16 is 13.85%.
I checked the indicators for FSC this morning. They are all saying "Buy" across the board on a short, medium and long term basis. That's fairly impressive.
I ended up holding onto all of the shares. If it is able to bust through the $6 mark tomorrow, I may not sell. Your point is well taken. Also, I liked the volume today in conjunction with another session of a higher high and a higher low.
Got 3k shares at 5.57 and an additional 3k shares at 5.35. I'm inclined to take my winnings and bail out. However, I am the first to admit that I do a lot of stupid things. Input from other is welcome. Thank you.
As always, you're very perceptive and insightful, raising good questions. Thank you. The markets to me are seemingly more of a #$%$ shoot now. Regarding my FSC "game plan", I think I'll probably sell all of it next Tuesday or Wednesday prior to the ex-divy date of the 11th and then start re-buying shortly after the ex-divy date, as it is prone to pull back much more than the 6-cent dividend in relation to session lows that follow after the ex-divy date.
Hello jwiseman. Hope all is going well for you in your trading activities and otherwise. I have loaded up on FSC at $5.57 and $5.35. I probably should have gotten your thoughts prior to acquiring 6k shares of it. Anyways, your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
Phl, you are too humble. I'm juggling too many balls this afternoon. Gotta watch three grand kids, make their lunch and worry about FSC & Ford this afternoon. At my age, I now become confused when I have 2 or more simultaneous tasks.........ha,ha.
