I just bought a month ago and just read an article in Money Paper to stay away from Synovus because they are one of just a
few hundred companies imposing outlandish fees. I am not enrolled in automatic withdrawal - I would send a check at intermittent
intervals. At $2.50 a check, this is not worth it. I researched the stock and was excited about its progress, but I'm going to sell and
buy into one of the MANY blue chips that don't charge exorbitant fees. Money Paper will not recommend this stock in the future.
Perhaps because they reported record earnings and sales for 1997? See Tiffany press release of 3/4/98. Whatever the reason, The Market Mavens are happy! We will be at the annual meeting to celebrate.
Thanks for the info on Chiron. I know they are without a CEO and have lots of management problems. I've had my shares for some time and think of them as a troubled child - a part of me wants to give it more time. I guess I'm making the mistake of being emotional. Just hate to "give up" on what I thought was promising. Thanks again.
for if it were as simple as letting the PE determine when to buy or sell, we wouldn't need all the other research. PFE is a great company that offers stability for the long run. The PE will adjust. Only my opinion which worth no more or less than anyone else. Have you heard of a company called Chiron? What are your thoughts on it - my money has been laying in that company dormant for quite a while.
You should be thanking moneymoover for the valuable advice. If you are looking for overnight profits, go to Atlantic City. If you listen to brokers who downgrade or upgrade stocks, it is like listening to movie critics and only going to movies they approve of. Invest for the long run - sit back - and stop with the panic attacks.
I sent them a letter (addressed to the President) and never received a reply. Yes, I like their in-store employees but their telephone staff and behind-the-scenes personnel certainly need upgrading. They have had some management changes so to be fair, maybe they need a little more time to get up to speed and start preserving the Tiffany name.
how TIF maintains its reputation. I have had some very bad experiences (as a customer and as a shareholder) with their telephone employees - the operators, salespeople who answer the phone and the people in investor relations. I intend to bring this up at the shareholder meeting - IF we ever find out where and when it really is.
You're right - those two are the perfect pair. If the marriage doesn't work, the guinness guy can provide "therapy". Better get off before they all start hurling again.
So many people like Vanguard. The Market Mavens are quite happy with PFE. Did you happen to attend the last shareholder meeting? It was quite interesting and amusing too.
If you admit you need therapy it usually means you don't need it. It merely means you're the same as the rest of us. It's those who think they truly are well-adjusted who need that stuff. However, next time you want to rant on try a Bernie Siegal guided imagery tape instead. Cheers!
"there's a lid for every pot". Glad you found someone to marry and you're off the market. Hope you have as much luck in the stock market! Hope you keep sharing your friend's advice with us.
bought GE, Gillette, Pfizer, etc. too, however she was just trying to get from day to day with a roof over her head and food on the table. Hopefully we can do better. Don't you think your grandchildren would like some Lucent, Home Depot, Microsoft, etc.? Instead of taking them to DisneyWorld, give them 1000 shares of Disney.
Oh, how boring life can get when everything comes down to money. I like your ideas. What Vanguard funds do you like? I've been thinking about Vanguard Index 500. I will try to do a Roth IRA, as you suggest, but between our club, my own stocks and my mutual funds (Baron Asset & Kaufmann), there's not a lot left to invest.
Oh well, I may have to resort to looking for a sugar daddy, but they don't exist anymore - only those cheap-o guys like the one you're playing dear abbey to.
Your portfolio sounds like a winner. Good luck!!
You've had too much guinness. I resent your language and attitude. Not everyone is or thinks they know it all like you so
don't be so cocky. If you don't like people asking questions, don't read this board. Don't we all read this board for information?
Some want more advanced information and some are seeking basics. If you feel your time is being wasted, get off the board and do
YOUR own research. I think the only swallowing to be done is for you to swallow your pride and apologize to those innocent
willking - your advice to that rainman guy was right on the mark - you told him good. He should take some of that money out of the market and put it into his wallet and remember that it is for DISPOSABLE income.
The cost of dating is not cheap and sweet talk only goes so far. If he would have put his money where his mouth is he'd have that smart lady as a wife and he'd be rich today. I liked his story though and his ladyfriend makes me want to buy LU RIGHT NOW.
Keep giving this guy the advice - he needs a woman - just remember that just as blue chips are expensive, so too is quality wooing.
P.S. Do you have a brother? (just kidding)
Your message surprises me because I spoke to Investor Relations last week and they told me the meeting has been set for May 21st to be held at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City.
Our club appreciates your interest in us and your views are duly noted and agreed upon. We baby boomers certainly are
pouring our money into the market hoping to have a comfortable retirement. Your 301 shares will soon become 602 shares so you have
something to be excited about. It's more than a lot of people have. The Mavens feel they did wait too long to purchase LU but it's a
learning experience. We will probably wait for the split. Those insider secret messages on this board are a little scary. I wonder
how much attention we should pay to that and just how much those messages affect the stock price - it seems highly manipulative
I've been referred to as an "unclaimed treasure". The Mavens thank you for your good wishes - we'll be getting into LU but not sure when - soon, though, very soon. We're watching and waiting.
