A memory device can include a plurality of memory elements, each including first electrode having a surrounding first electrode side surface in a lateral direction; a memory material surrounding the first electrode side surface in the lateral direction, the memory material being programmable between at least two different impedance states in response to electric fields; and a second electrode formed around the memory material in the lateral direction.

JAPAN, January 6 — SoftBank, the 62nd largest company in the world and Japan’s biggest internet and telecommunications corporation has co-launched a decentralized blockchain development contest for entrepreneurs and startups with Topcoder.
The company is seeking for a basic prototype of an international fund-raising platform with a greater level of transparency. Contestants will have three months, from January 6 to March 31 to design a decentralized and blockchain-based unalterable record-keeping application which could be implemented in cross-industry platforms.
Smart contracts made by the Bitcoin blockchain technology are important in holding transaction history and network data, explains Softbank. Blockchain technology will allow the world to accomplish many great things in the near and distant future. While the art of growing vegetables in space may have nothing to do with this technology directly, the documentation process of growing food in space, as well as delivering it to consumers, could benefit from blockchain technology. The International Space Station crew will try their hand at eating fresh food grown in space later today.
