Don't bet the Farm here. Exploration stage.... WARNING ! ... lol
hey Micro ...
last week when I was goofin on a screener, I found some that were interesting, so I ended up with 16, I put on a watchlist and watched/checked them LIVE in real time several times a day everyday for 10 days.
What I found was ... almost every day the combined set had a pretty nice overall net gain every day no matter what the others were losing, and it didnt matter if yesterdays winners were losing because the others had turned around and made up for it. lol.
I wasnt working it mind you, I was just watching for possibilities.
However ... check these out ... cull the ones you cant stand, then give the others a good look. Look at the story the previous 90 days PPS history of these stocks tell. And consider the institutional support.
LNTH, MGT, SYNC, ASM, AKER, GBR, ABRW, VGZ, MCUR, AAU, XRA, CVVUF, THM, GEVO, GLBS, CERE
Might be some Gems in this group.
Thanks Bottomsupinvestor for coming in early on this and lending support to the idea..
I hoped the idea would be considered seriously.
Competition amongst ourselves was not the intent.
it could have that effect if we looked at it in that way because some groups will outperform others and some "rules" may be more effective than others for various reasons and situations.
But forming a team together, to pick stocks to comprise an imaginary fund managed by a few simple rules to maximize return is the idea.
The premise being, I think we can do well in this area of investment due to our preformance as stock pickers in Bottomsupinvestors contest.
Just to see how we can compare to the Big Boys on Wall Street.
I just thought that this would be fun to do and something to have going all the time, in lieu of a regular contest in session.
There are plenty of smart people on this board, we can figure it out as we go along.
I suggest that for the 1st quarter (or 2 ) we have no rules and just make picks.
And see about implementing rules, after some discussion, for the start of the next quarter. Oct-Dec or maybe the 1stQ 2017
However, I can quickly see how figuring 100 stocks WITH rules, on quarterly basis might be too much for me.
I might require a concession by players on doing their own Q updates after rules are agreed upon.
starting a new fund is risky business. so I spent a couple minutes reading about it.
So ... . it seems that if we call it a hedge fund and keep the value under $150,000 000.
we not required to register with the SEC.
So no problems there, this year anyway.
Thanks for participating
to form an imaginary stock fund with which to compare our Fund returns versus
professional funds returns with quarterly and yearly.
I would wish that everyone from the KTCC board who participates in the semi-regular stock picking contests run by Bottomsupinvestor will participate.
So that means you too BFrank.
I would like 8- 10- 12 players to pick 10 stocks to make it a fund of 100 entries.
But the plan is to have 100 stocks or more ... if we dont get 10 players ... we'll just make more picks per available players whatever it takes.
Try to make picks with longer term potential in mind versus the short term standard contest mindset.
its ok if some players pick the same stocks, but dont pick 1 just because someone else picked it. DO you own work.
dont be influenced by other pickers.
Please avoid mega stocks like goog appl msft ,, ect.
and please dont make all picks from 1 sector.
All basic Bottomsupinvestor Stock Pickin Contest rules shall apply.
Please respond to the VCSMX messageboard by 12 July to state your intent to participate. so we can figure out how many picks each player will make.
Please be ready to have your picks in by 17 July.
I'll try to give a regular quarterly update on performance.
the first update at the end of Sept. and Dec. of this year and then the end of March, June, September and December thereafter.
I will come up with some simple*
Fund Rules where the Fund will be self managing, but yet not exceedingly complex. with provisions to limit loss, eliminate the odd Loser, and profit taking rules also. And provisions for rolling non-movers into movers. maybe add some rules later.
Great suggestions* welcomed and immediately implemented.
If this sounds like a stupid idea ... I sorry you read this far.
non-participators may be subject to untimely Flat Tires ... the Zika Virus, Dry Skin ... and the heartbreak of psoriasis.
this is all voluntary just for fun.
no money involved whateve
Upon further searching 4 more were found that have been moving of late ... and doing well today
it is evident that someone seems to think some of the Minor Gold Exploration Companies are undervalued.
AAU, VGZ, THM, XRA, all moving recently. ... thanks to the thumber downer, and oops I forgot to mark this post OT.
of a screen
of a stock screener has revealed the following 6 equities as possibilities for investment, warranting further consideration in due diligence, in my opinion.
in a very quick summary review of the 6, utilizing several Yahoo finance data metrics... 3 got checkmarks ... 2 got question marks ... and 1 got both. lol
but all had positive attributes in one way or another, in spite of whatever negatives were discovered after the initial attraction.
In particular ... of the 3 that got checkmarks initially ...1 had many positives and looked like a strong possibility to me.
So then .. for fun .. and in no particular order ...
CERE, GEVO, GLBS, MCUR, LNTH, SYNC
Just for fun.
it probably is since I thinking about buying it long. Thanks for your thumbs down and input.
as long as I'm here, let me see if I can help the NROM buyers .... I wouldn't touch that steaming heap NROM with a 10 foot pole.
Now it should go up 40% on Monday.
54,413 shares were traded AH mostly at the last price,. 5% of the daily volume. I had previously thought 60 would be a good entry but it kept going down and then Brexit .. so 73 to 49. down 32.6% in 3 weeks. I still have not bought. but I do keep thinking about it.
I look at the pps history and see its been a long steady decline. without seeing any obvious visible reasons at first glance, for this decline.
the ceo/ cfo (the Mobley's) have been making alot of money here for a long time, selling regularly.
on the NROM board someone saying that they also have a $800,000 yearly budget for trade shows. lol. Dam.
the investment company that recently unwound alot of shares, had only 14 mo ago, made a fairly substantial investment ... then got out reasonably abruptly and lost ALOT of money in the process.
I don't think the economy is going to support at this time a "flurry" of "new" stores/locations . regardless of any new and "improved" plans or business model.
unless they plan to initiate Drone delivery, there is no new "concept" in Pizza. (as far as I know) lol.
It is still Pizza, although sold in various types of outlets, I question what they will do different NOW that they haven't been doing previously?
The Pizza Kings ..Dominos, papa johns and others .. have this down to a science by now and they haven't changed their models at all. I can walk in Sam's Club and get a decent Pizza fairly reasonable. Red Baron has a decent frozen product with "rising crust" I myself like the Chef Boyardee* pizza kits
They follow the tried and true formula that made them Pizza Kings.
But NROM has a better idea?
Yahoo show 3M$ debt currently, I would ask 1. why they are in debt? 2. who holds the debt? and 3. is there any preferred stock. ? And 4. how much more debt will the current expansion plans be liable to incur?
it might be a buy or a "wade-in" at this point .. or not, but its still only Pizza.
I dont see anything to be excited about at this time, no matter WHAT their plans are. And in a less than favorable economy. I like to see an equity stirring or at least showing some signs of a comeback with appropriate volume as well, after a 2-3 year steady decline in pps.
I'm passing on NROM
dam yahoo needs some real spam control .. besides needing to update their badly sucking system too.
I remember you keep a "basket" of assorted PHARM possibilities and your theory behind that strategy, and also was wondering if you ever tried swing trades or if you strictly were a value potential/long term value kind of operator. ?
on Yahoo? ... lol yes Sir all the time. yahoo is glitch city all the time. that's the trouble with computers though, it could be the ISP, or it could be your mouse.
I had a handful of shares a couple years back I think. I got tired of watching it waste away and dumped it.
if I had any left I think I'd be dumping them right now, just to break even.. lol.
