    Volatility

topdog: You stated " This will be the last run in Fossil Fuels before we explode onto alternate energy. Technology is evolving at a rapid pace."

While I will agree that tech for alternative energy is evolving at a rapid pace, 2017 will not be the last run for fossil fuels. The world currently uses 90+ million bbls of crude a day, 70 billion cf of nat. gas/day and 18+ million short tons of coal per day. It will take decades for alternative energy to replace fossil fuels. This is a fact, not just my opinion.

However, if you believe what you wrote, I am more than willing to place a bet with you....

Anything is possible...it is very hard to say or to predict in this world of instant information dissemination and quick reactions by investors (not the small investors but the institutional investors who really control the markets currently).

Even the expert forecasters are wrong on so many important issues (an article in today's WSJ points out that professional forecasting organizations are wrong on the big issues more often than not).

As a small investor, we can no longer just rely on buy-and-hold or investment advisors. Just like for our medical needs, we need to be proactive and have the ability to be our own advocate...

I was otherwise busy, but today would have been a great to buy most anything at the open...an overreaction to the UK vote...in time, people will realize that it is not the end of the world and share prices will bounce back...

    Just my view...

shellbusdriver: That was a very good roll...potentially picked up 2.50 for 0.01 and no further risk on the premium that you picked up should the stock close below 52.50 in Oct..

Looks as if I was too soon in selling July 50 calls...but still have a month left and can always roll them before expiration. With the premium I gained, I am protected to 52.34 (if called or I let expire, I would sell for the equivalent of 52.34)...

Good call on your purchase. I missed the current trade as I was busy and did not catch the turn in crude prices in time.

Current share price now near top of BBand. I sold July 50 calls this morning as I am counting on volatility to catch the next dip in crude prices (and RDS share price).

Yes, getting into buy territory, especially for a long term hold. For a trade, I will hold off awhile longer...until it reaches the bottom of the B-Band or looks like it is going to change direction.

    Why is it

hiker: It's called time lag. It takes awhile from the time a bbl of crude is purchased until it arrives at the refinery, is refined and is then shipped to the station. Depending upon method of shipment and intermediate storage times, it could take several weeks - rather than 3 days..

    Today's pattern second gap appears!

rmarfl: Yes, strange, but when I follow the rules that I have set I seem to do better than when I violate those rules relying on a gut feeling supported in many cases by technicals or fundamentals.

Tried to post earlier today but for some reason, it did not post to this site.

Anyhow, I agree that it appears as if there is more upside...and I will take advantage of that with my long term holdings.

As for the trade that I initiated at 49.92 on x-date, stock price has now hit my target so I exited my trading position this morning with a 6+% gain. Yes, I may have left some on the table, but I'll take the gain...

GLTA still in this trade. Will post when I open a new trade.

No changes expected at OPEC Mtg. so crude continues to rise. However, RD, XOM, CVX, BP and markets are down...

Going to hang on to the RDS trade awhile longer...even though will be away from a computer for a week or so...
