For that reason, Intel Corp. is pushing the industry to finish the development of an actinic-based mask inspection tool. KLA-Tencor, for one, has been working on it. Using the same 13.5nm wavelength as EUV, actinic inspection can supposedly find more defects than optical. But it could take the industry three to five more years to bring this technology into the market at a cost of around $500 million.

As a result, there is an increasing interest in the next option—single e-beam and/or multi-beam e-beam. In fact, several entities are developing multi-beam e-beam inspection technology, which is also a challenging task.

KLAC has the technology but it's not in Lam's interest I suppose.
One analyst actually suggested ASML making a counter offer.
ASML is going to ship EUV production tools (probably Intel) in 2017 - it takes about 12 months from start up to production.

looks like Putin and Trump are in agreement with regards to Brexit - scary - very scary.
And his comments about mining and coal coming back - he kind of lost it .
I don't like Clinton but she is predictable and probably a lot more aggressive towards Putin - Putin is extremely dangerous and Obama was too soft

also the demonization of trade is worrisome

    maybe early signs of dementia
Putin is his buddy and role model? Didn't Putin downed KLM jet not so long ago and didn't Putin assassinate opposition leaders? The idiot rates Vlady with an A - hey what's wrong with you people?
Newsweek should have a picture of trumps rear end as part of his face with a ladder showing the GOP establishment climbing in his rectum one after the other -
markets are going to crash if trump becomes reality - the US will be trumped up for a very, very long time

Blitzer asked trump regarding birther movement -
Trump responded and asked : who started it? and Trump said Hillary started it.

He is stupid enough to open his mouth - does he not know that there is something like fact checking.
The scary thing about Trump and his followers is that facts don't matter - that's how Aldolf "worked it"

The US will go back to coal and he'll make America great again - American Idiots at their best

“Eighty-three percent of U.S. semiconductor industry sales are into markets outside the U.S., so access to overseas markets is imperative to the long-term strength of our industry,” Neuffer said. “The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a landmark trade agreement that would tear down myriad barriers to trade with countries in the Asia-Pacific. The TPP is good for the semiconductor industry, the tech sector, the American economy, and the global economy. Congress should approve it.”

  • Apple drove entire foundry sales increase at TSMC in 2015
Driving home just how important Apple’s foundry business is, TSMC’s foundry sales increased by $1,464 million last year while its sales to Apple jumped by $1,990 million, representing more than 100% of TSMC’s total foundry sales increase in 2015. As a result, without Apple, TSMC’s foundry sales would have declined by 2% last year, eight points less than the 6% increase it logged when including Apple.
IC Insights’ April Update to the 2016 McClean Report, to be released later this week, includes IC Insights’ final 2015 top 50 company rankings for total semiconductor and IC sales as well as rankings of the leading suppliers of DRAM, flash memory, MPUs, IC foundry services, etc.

Intel Custom Foundry certifies Synopsys tools for 10nm tri-gate process

Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS) today announced Intel Custom Foundry’s certification of digital and signoff implementation tools from the Synopsys Galaxy Design Platform for Intel’s 10-nanometer (nm) tri-gate process technology. Synopsys and Intel Custom Foundry employed a PowerVR GT7200 GPU design from Imagination Technologies to develop the reference flow. Customers of Intel Custom Foundry now have access to the 10nm system-on-chip (SoC) design methodology based on the technology-leading Synopsys Galaxy Design Platform, anchored by IC Compiler II.

Key components and features of the Galaxy Design Platform certified and enabled for Intel’s 10-nm process include:

IC Compiler II place and route: Seamless support for the advanced, multi-patterning requirements and optimization technologies to maximize the benefits of advanced tri-gate processes
PrimeTime timing signoff: SPICE-level correlation with support for Advanced Waveform Propagation to model tri-gate effects
StarRC extraction: Multi-patterning, full color-aware variation modeling and 3D tri-gate modeling
IC Validator signoff physical verification: In-Design, automated DRC repair and metal fill within IC Compiler II; and layout-vs.-schematic (LVS) signoff
HSPICE, FineSim SPICE and CustomSim simulation: Tri-gate active and passive device modeling via common model and passive device model interfaces

Architected around a modern, low-memory footprint and natively multi-threaded infrastructure, IC Compiler II can easily handle very large designs with proven capacity for over 10-million instances. IC Compiler II delivers industry-leading, ultra-high-capacity automated design planning, unique clock-building technology and patented global-analytical optimization that result in a highly convergent design implementation flow.
