Good luck on timing this: you may get lucky or you may miss the boat.

With regard to the Healios partnership: I find it frustrating too, but feel as time passes the odds increase that it will happen sooner than later.

Unfortunately an increase in short activity is usually not a good sign as we're not talking about gamblers initiating the short position on a whim. I don't recall a time where when I thought a great short squeeze would happen and it did.

That's not to say it couldn't happen here, as we do have some decent catalysts coming, but it would be the exception and not the rule for shorts to get caught with their pants down. In the end, probably more manipulation. It's been a while without news: I hope we get an update soon!

Why pay those prices? Possibly to close out a short option position? If someone had access to historical Open Interest, I guess we could verify if that were the case. Regardless, not a lot of volume here, although at the same time I agree it's odd.

I guess we'll soon see. As has been discussed repeatedly on this board, the chances of the extended partnership with Healios NOT occurring are very low, so it's more a question of timing as to when we'll hear the announcement.

I don't believe so as I feel it would have been made public in some way, although at the same time I admit my ignorance here and still don't understand how all of that worked that day, nor do I understand the comments that basically said "it wasn't a big deal" - seems to me sophisticated traders manipulated it down and filled some big order related to Russel inclusion. Since that day though, we've moved up nicely. A lot of manipulation going on here...

Oh come on, you're just not being serious now. Let me ask you this: for you to make this assessment you just made, you would have to be able to cite multiple instances of where he's been factually wrong- so please cite them or you're just volunteering a biased opinion yourself. I'm open minded and this is the stupid Internet, so if you think he's fraud, I'd like to be shown the proof.

Sorry, I don't understand you're point: he can't be an expert in everything and he possibly believes more in the companies he writes about.

Total cash on hand as of June 24th was 149.2 million, per their presentation which you can download from their website today. The majority of their losses are "non-cash": that's not to say it doesn't matter, but the burn rate is less than people think.

The last time we had a major delay regarding partnership we all know what happened although I do not feel in any way that's the case here. Athersys had the Healios card to play with Chugai, but Helios is "the one" I feel- so let's not out-negotiate ourselves this time around. I still feel it's 95% to occur, I just do not know when and how good it will be.

One lesson to learn though, is whatever time frame you think is correct with Athersys, DOUBLE IT, because it always takes more time than you think...

Good thoughts and once again, it comes back to this "expanded partnership" to provide insight. Friday will be the 1st and to mention this expansion the last conference call but not follow-up within the same quarter is poor, imho.

    Yesterday's Sell Off?

Just my opinion, but I think the stock has generally been a bit fragile lately with everyone anticipating some "event" which just doesn't seem to happen- and then a little weakness and more exit toward the door as we're still trading on future expectations without any sort of real earnings. Add to that BJ's sale, and the lack of update on the Healios partnership, and people start to wonder. Heck: I've been in this stock for 5 years now- maybe longer- and even I'm frustrated.

All of that said, the fact remains Gil publicly stated the following: "So I will only say that we are – we’ve been having active discussions about a very meaningful expansion of the partnership. I’m not ready to give more details on what that means, but I’m very optimistic based on those discussions and what we’ve already reached conceptual agreement on that the future for this partnership is very bright. And I think it holds a lot of opportunity for both organizations. And frankly, it’s something that our shareholders should be very excited about."

So yet again, it's a test: will we as shareholders "get excited" about this deal as we're told we will? Read it again: "reached conceptual agreement" - this has been a love-fest from the start as opposed to the Chugai relationship.

Is there any reason to doubt this will move forward? No, there is not: the question is when and how "excited" we actually will be. If this does not go through, it would imply something seriously has changed, for the worse, and it will be bad, bad, bad for us. Timing? Now that management got their stock options, anytime from now till the end of year although from my perspective, not announcing prior to next quarter's call is an issue for me.

So, is this to be interpreted that Healios will start the study in "a couple months from now or so" or that Healios will have PMDA approval in "a couple months from now or so" ?

One thing that is annoying is that on May 5th, Gil specifically mentioned the expanded collaboration with Healios "And frankly, it’s something that our shareholders should be very excited about." and since then, we've heard nothing- but we have had insider sales and now a 10% down day "out of the blue". I like Gil and I like BJ, but unless this new expanded partnership is disclosed by July 8th, what was done was underhanded as it's not unreasonable that investment decisions were made because of these statements- but then we have the insider sales? Not right- and frankly, if they do not announce something between now and the next cc, then it really stinks, because it means there would be a whole quarter of silence after the "news" was stated. From a timing perspective, it still seems like it would make sense to get PMDA trial approval then announce the partnership- and I hope that's the case- but the optics on this is horrible.

Ok. So where are the catalysts?

    by gibis Jun 21, 2016 3:48 PM
    wahnton1138 wahnton1138 Jun 21, 2016 6:39 PM Flag

I think you're pretty much on target with the catalysts: following a short time after PMDA 30 day trial approval would be the ideal time to announce the Healios expanded partnership- so maybe that's what they're waiting for with respect to timing which makes a certain amount of sense. Other than that, I think other announcements could happen at any time. Previously I had speculated that some sort of deal would conclude by June 30th but that looks like wishful thinking although we don't have much longer to find out on that one. It's too bad: they had some momentum which now appears to be stalled, which hopefully will change very shortly though...

Yes: people who need money(margined out, new house, bills, poor planning) people who are bored with the lack of news and impatient, and sophisticated traders or use programs that trade the wiggles.

We need the news we were promised and real revenue.

I'll probably go: I've been going every year for the past five years or so. Usually you go, talk to people, feel good about future prospects, and then things continue on. Unless we get a material PR in the morning(highly unlikely) there won't really be anything new materially that will be disclosed so it's more a matter of gauging morale.
