"A good way to increase the pie is to see a significant rise in wages across the country. Another is a good dose of Hamiltonian theories in regard to China and Japan"
Thanks for the history lesson, but I don't care. I'm more interested in today.
So I take it that your plan would be to increase wages, then set up a series of tariffs and barriers to trade which serve the purpose of protecting an increasingly uncompetitive workforce.
I know, my spin, but have I captured your thoughts?
Here's a short paragraph I took from one of my posts a few minutes ago.
"By the way, the Obama budget shows that in 10 years, our accumulated debt will have grown to about $29T from today's $19T, and the debt service will grow from 6% of total outlays today, to 13.5% in 2026. And this is including an increase in personal income taxes of 62%."
What are your thoughts on this? Does this concern you? Do you believe something has to be done to curtail the excess spending in relation the revenue? Should we raise taxes? Should we cut spending? Should we do both? Should we do nothing?
What would you do?
" As for the deficit it has always been the GOP (Reagan and W) to shatter debt to GNP ratio. You may of forgot the last President to balance a budget was named Clinton."
And you may not be aware that the current Democrat has put on another $8T. Try and understand this Jayhawky, I really don't give a hoot who the last one was, Republican...Democrat. They are both guilty. That's why the fundamental way that we pick leaders has to change.
These two parties are killing us. And it will be in our lifetime. They have to be replaced.
"It is the GOPs fault-I will answer it for you."
OK, you win. It's all on the Republicans. Feel better?
You seem to be intent on blaming someone, I am searching for a remedy. In my mind, neither of the two parties will provide an answer so I am looking elsewhere. It's the people that believe these are the only two choices that are enabling them.
It seems that the Republicans are imploding...I thought the Democrats were well on their way as well but it appears they may get the nose of their plane up in time this year. We'll see how it goes at THEIR convention.
"Debt and deficit is a tougher issue. First, we have to stop fighting the Soviets."
If it were only that easy. The total defense budget is $595B out of $3.95T, or 15%. All of the defense spending is approved by congress in appropriations.
The big elephant in the room is spending on benefits required by law. Adding SS, Medicare, Medicaid, and other mandatory programs comes to $2.5 trillion, or 63% of total outlays.
Boys and girls, you can't fix the deficit, or even get it under control without taking money away from people in one form or another. And in order to do that, the laws regarding those benefits have to change.
By the way, the Obama budget shows that in 10 years, our accumulated debt will have grown to about $29T from today's $19T, and the debt service will grow from 6% of total outlays today, to 13.5% in 2026. And this is including an increase in personal income taxes of 62%.
DOES ANYBODY CARE?
"People have said, and some still do, that Social Security is the third rail of politics. Not anymore - it's the debt. Nobody wants to touch it because, as they have correctly surmised, the American people don't care. "
The American people don't care....you're right. Do you think we are collectively that stupid? This is truly disturbing to me. And yet when the boom drops (I believe the crash will be in the next 15-20 years) everyone will look around and say "why didn't somebody do something?"
I also blame the press. They have not done their job in this campaign, truly incompetent. They have the tools to turn this campaign into a discussion of policy, but all they want to put in their papers and websites are the latest stupid statements by Trump. Disgraceful.
I apologize, but I'm not feeling very hopeful for our country.
"Since you are convinced that Hillary will win, and are probably correct, does she have a platform for stemming the gowth of the deficit? Does she even think it's a problem?"
I got to thinking, maybe Hillary has a wonderful plan to stop the growth of the deficit, and because no politician (except one) has the courage to talk about it, I should probably give her a fair hearing and look at her website, which I did.
She has positions on 32 issues ranging from "Protecting animals and wildlife" to "Autism", but apparently the deficit didn't make her list. Must have been #33.
Donald Trump only has positions on 7 items, but the deficit didn't make his list either.
I must be seriously out of touch, because it's my #1 issue.
But you know Hillary far better than I, does she have a plan?
And my question applies to you Trump supporters as well.
As a courtesy to all of us, would you please supply quote from the post you are replying to? With a thread as ridiculously long as this one is, it's difficult to know what your point is.
"Whose fault is this WNGR?"
Again, not sure what "this" is, but I'll assume that you're talking about the chaos that this campaign has become. I don't know, probably because the vast majority of politicians trying to get elected instead of doing their jobs.
"The GOP is a train wreck."
No revelation there.
"Hillary is going to win this and she will not even need her "A" game."
You're probably right.
"Our system is built to have two competing parties offering ideas on how to better the USA."
There are several more parties than two, and with many more ridiculous candidates that the two parties are putting forward, there may be one or more emerging in the next few elections.
Since you are convinced that Hillary will win, and are probably correct, does she have a platform for stemming the gowth of the deficit? Does she even think it's a problem?
"Now your question"
I agree with your number 1. For 2,3,4,6....while they might be a nice thing to do, each one only serves to exacerbate the country's biggest problem the deficit. For #5, you must be joking.
What this country desperately needs is adult supervision which understands that to continue spending as we are will be our undoing. That ain't Hillary and it ain't Donald.
"wngr this is from your snopes story."
Yes, it is. I'm not sure if you understand it though, because it further makes my point. It casts further doubt on the claim that John Brennan is a Muslim.
"Had he sought to conceal his Islamic faith, it's just as likely he would have opted to use a Bible (particularly if he had no intent to uphold the very Constitution on which he swore his oath)."
"And if we are to believe that John Brennan is a closeted Muslim, then we would also have to believe that either no one in the highest levels of the U.S. government has the least bit of concern about that fact (not enough to speak up about it, anyway), or that Brennan has managed to successfully hide his religious beliefs from the entirety of the vast intelligence network that he heads."
"The more logical answer is that John Brennan could very well have no faith at all, or that he holds the ideals of the Constitution higher than the ideals of religion in relation to his duties as head of the CIA."
This is hardly "all been checked, then double checked... it is 100% Correct."
I am glad you have discovered how to use snopes. You should consider using it BEFORE posting garbage like this.
"Should Donald Trump be denied the nomination? He'll leave the Republican Party and run a 3rd Party campaign self-financed. This gives the race to Secretary Clinton."
Greatday, you have a lot in common with Jeye. Neither of you has a clue about why you're for your candidate other than that is the person your party told you to be for. Neither of you can articulate a rational reason why you or anyone else should vote your way other than 1) It's not the other person, and 2) That's who my party told me to vote for.
We are doomed.
"This information has all been checked, then double checked... it is 100% Correct."
Jeye, you need to get new internet friends. I decided to check "John Brennan is a Muslim" on Snopes and found this:
"Iterations of the "Brennan is a Muslim" claim have a single thing in common: ex-FBI agent John Guandolo. Guandolo resigned from his position with the Bureau in December 2008 after he was caught engaging in a sexual relationship with a key confidential source in the midst of a corruption investigation of a Louisiana politician. Since then, he has created a burgeoning second career training law enforcement groups to identify potential covert Islamic threats to the United States.
However, Guandolo's credibility in this area has been questioned, one example being an NPR segment that primarily focused on Jordanian-American Omar al-Omari. Guandolo was central to the segment due his insinuation during a law enforcement training course that Omari was connected to a vague cabal of "terrorists".
"Guandolo remains the sole source we've found for this claim about John Brenna's being a Muslim, with no versions of it tracing back to any source other than him. The only thing approaching proof the former FBI agent had cited in support of his claim is the fact that Brennan once said during a speech that he had "marveled at the majesty of the Hajj." Since the Hajj is an annual pilgrimage undertaken by Muslims to Mecca, a holy city that non-Muslims not are allowed to enter, Guandolo arrived at the extremely far-fetched conclusion that Brennan himself must be a Muslim in order to have marveled at it. But Brennan didn't say he had ever taken part in such a pilgrimage or visited Mecca himself, and quite obviously someone with his extensive background in Middle Eastern affairs could know (and have seen) something of the Hajj without having participated in it"
"This information has all been checked, then double checked... it is 100% Correct."
"When last did a 3rd party candidate succeed? Though the times they are a-changin’, so..."
So you're sayin' there's a chance....
"Sap what is in the water you drink? Clinton is going to thrash Trump and the Dems are going to take the Senate back. Are you more delusional than your usual self?"
Why don't you take a crack at listing Mrs. Clinton's 5 greatest accomplishments.
"I answered that question several days ago. Her greatest accomplishment to date. As a woman, securing the nomination for President of the United States by a National Political Party - first time in history. Proving it can be done for all women young and old."
I would agree that being a woman is her best accomplishment.
The following is more along the lines of what I was going for:
1. He was a successful business man before politics. Started as a door to door salesman and grew a construction business to one of the biggest in New Mexico.
2. New Mexico was one of only 4 states to have a balanced budget accumulating a $1 billion surplus while he was Governor.
3. He set state and national records for his use of veto and line-item veto powers to eliminate pork, estimated to have been more than the other 49 contemporary governors combined in order to achieve #2.
4. He cut taxes 14 times and never raised them once (remember that he had a balanced budget also).
5. On a personal basis, he has climbed the tallest mountain on each of the 7 continents (including Mt. Everest).
This is the candidate I will support.
"Well, you've jinxed it Webby. Now, he'll never answer."
It is either an advantage for a competent leader, or a disadvantage for an incompetent. Anyone that is a great supporter of either candidate should be able to make this list as fast as he/she can type.
Greatday must be doing something else right now...wait, he posting....should be his list coming any second.
"Candidate qualifications for the office they campaign for should determine voter choice - not hatred. "Hoping for the best" isn't sound reasoning."
Agreed Greatday. And Secretary Clinton has the advantage of running from her record both as Senator and SOS.
What, in your view, are her 5 accomplishments that stand out as being good for America?
