I think this fund is different than two other funds BARAX and BGRFX: 1)It uses short; 2)It uses leverage. So it's more hedge fund style. If you invest into it, you need to know the risk is higher. It's standard deviation is very high (see http://finance.yahoo.com/q/rk?s=BPTRX).
I think it will be LSBRX (it includes preferred stock, which is considered as fixed income, similar to bond)
PRPFX is a good balance of FAIRX, but it is a balanced fund instead of bond fund.
This fund is good. There are other two funds I can recommend:
PRPFX: balanced fund
LSBRX: bond fund.
Their average return: FAIRX > PRPFX > LSBRX
Their risk: FAIRX > PRPFX > LSBRX
If you only need a return of 2*12/500=4.8% per year, then LSBRX is good enough.
You can go to message board of PRPFX and LSBRX for opinions.
I think this fund is similar to brufx, in the sense they both have low correlation with the market, and have excellent performance during bad time.
