For 1.33 athlons even cheaper
OT advice for people building or upgrading a computer:
Overall I've found both www.mwave.com and www.allstarshop.com to be the cheapest hardware sights. With Mwave being (very)slightly more expensive but with a more complete inventory. You might find cheaper individual pieces elsewhere (through pricewatch) but these two are hands down the all around cheapest when it comes to buying all the parts for one system.
(I also have no relationship with these sights but just want to share some savings)
"Would you consider GeForce3 benchmarks on current applications as an indication that it isn't much faster than a GeForce2 Ultra? "
Umm... a source on this please? Who pray tell has gforce3 benchmarks?
The fact is that NVDA has the market saturated with a full line of high quality cards that consistenly outperform the competitors in the Same price range. If you want the best performing most expensive card out there you'll have to get a GForce2 Ultra 64. If you only need a decent sub $100 card with tv out and on board DVD decompression for your moms computer you'd be silly to get anything other then the gforce2 MX. And then there are the cool features that I personally know a lot of folks taking advantage of such as dual display.
Plus there is the GForce 3 which is unlike anything anyone has ever seen. I work for a video game company and us programmers are slobbering to get our hands on this machinery, as I expect all of the other developers out there are. The next generation of games is going to be taking full advantage of pixel/vertex shaders.
Then of course there is the mobile market:
And one more final word: XBox.
Very long NVDA...
I'm a recent (two week) holder of THQI and I love
reading these message boards, and plan to stay for a
while. Now that that's over with, here's the
All of the points being made about advantages of
consoles over PCs you folks are making are true except for
one. That consoles may ever actually outperform high
end PCs. It may have been true for a Brief while that
the Playstation was outperforming PCs of the time.
The Dreamcast is already behind. And though it seemed
as though the Playstation 2 was poised to do it,
NVDAs recent GPU has upped the ante once again. Check
PCs will always have an advantage in that you don't
have to wait 4 years for the next one to come out, you
can just take your old one throw some more memory in
it and a new 3d card (hope I don't sound too much
like monte ;)) and maybe a new processor and reach a
new level of gaming.
I'm not saying that this
changes the PC/console balance too much, becuase all the
other advantages of consoles still hold: price, ease of
use, and such, but the highest of the high end will
always belong to the PCs...
I say hold on to your hats, becuase the analyst
coverage news is fresh, Zacks and others are still showing
only 4 strong buys.
If its not a mistake on
yahoo's part, then we can expect some news later today,
and then we'll be leaving the low twenties
"...Either they are lying in which case they
could go to jail,..." I don't think so. Try to put
someone in jail for lying a stinking message board. Just
try it... I'm 1000 feet tall! I short sold 400,000
Personally, I glance at this board
occasionally for the rare but interesting knowledge that
posters may have. I don't think anyone is seriously
buying or selling according to a msg brd. I have a
feeling the kids you are talking about are playing
portfolio games. Besides the people posting on here aren't
going to be affecting the stock price a smidgen so
don't sweat it...
