It's all about building blocks for the future. A future where the US exports LNG, and nat gas seldom dips below $5. If you believe in this future, and I do, VNR has a very bright future, even if it has to lower the distribution in 2015 (to .18), and the unit price tanks to $20. All possibilities. In this scenario, by 2018, the distribution would still exceed the current .21, and the unit price would be $35+. Keep in mind too, that mgmt. is loathe to ever drop the dist., and hopefully the accretive acquisitions really are accretive, and help VNR fully fund dist's, in the immediate future. Long VNR, and staying that way. Good luck to us all ! . . . . . Well, except if you're short, sorry.

    BACK UP THE TRUCK!

It's starting to look like that same $$ amount may fill a 2x larger truck in about 4 weeks. Even if the talking heads are all wrong, they do tend to move the market.

The most recent time I held SDRL (2014), I had bought at $39.10, held through a steep fall, 2 dividends, and slow rise back up, then sold at $39.76. I believe it peaked after that, at 41'ish, I missed that last bit up.
The other time I held SDRL, I bought at $39.20 (2013), held through an upturn, I believe 3 dividends, and sold at $47 something. Also missing the rest of the peak, but for me, honestly, some of my best timing.

$400 / 100 shares. Sounds good. Even better $4000 / 1000 shares !!! It just keeps getting better with zeroes ! But to me, it just seems so much simpler and safer to extract the juice from shale. I have SDRL marked as a Hold, but it's a weak hold, kind of reflecting having, possibly, missed the boat already. I managed to sell my SDRL at $39.76, not very long ago, and am here to read the current comments. I'm not short, I'm not long, I'm just here to read. I'm neutral on the whole thing, but suspect the down draft will continue. It'll surely go south quick should they touch that dividend.

    Sentiment: Hold

  • FFO down. Share price down. Sigh. Still holding, and accumulating (only) with my dividend re-investments. But sometimes I really feel like a glutton for punishment. I keep hearing of exorbitant motel rates around the Bakken oil fields. Is other realty not following suit ?

    1st MEMP position, started today.

Thanks Rodrick, sorry, but not exactly sure what you meant, I'm mostly verse, in my own finances. My main tax deferred retirement account, is my Simplified Employee Pension - IRA (SEP-IRA). It's the best you can do for yourself, when you're self-employed. I opened that account in 1993.

    Sentiment: Buy

  • Hello fellow longs ! MEMP was already on my radar, for the July unit offering. I was fully invested though, and missed the opportunity. I was more ready this time. I still had some liquidity from selling out my KMI / KMP.
So I initiated 2 positions of MEMP on today's offering. In my SEP-IRA, a small chunk, at $22.19 , and in a taxable account, 3x as much, at $22.33 . My biggest holdings are LINE/LNCO , BBEP, and ETP. MEMP is a bit further down. My current thinking has upstream being a better long term holding, than mid stream. As we're 1 significant geo-political event from $110+/barrel, and I'm still not convinced the shale revolution is going to be long, highly producing enough, for the new pipelines being built. If they deplete quicker than projected, like quite a few are saying, KMI could be in for trouble by 2020. End ramble here. Best of luck to all MEMP longs, and to MEMP shorts, well, you can pay my distributions, and hopefully lose some serious $$.

On the left side of your keyboard, is the Caps Lock. It's a good key. Especially if you unlock it, so your posts, and then your replies to your own posts, don't seem like a psychopath screaming at passersby on the street.
Besides that, I pretty much agree with you, but I don't believe the march to $15 will be all that quick, or even straight.

Surely will do. I keep adding on dips too. BBEP is a very solid company, and (nominally) my 2nd largest holding. It keeps fluctuating 2 or 3 with ETP. The LINE/LNCO combo is, by a pretty lot, my biggest holding.

Kaiser mad a commenton Linn Energy also.

The Kaiser still wets his bed, which is actually his mom's couch, put in the basement of her house, where he lives. Women won't talk to, or even acknowledge him, and his dog keeps peeing on the couch too, to cover the loser's pee scent. Not that I harbor any bad feelings towards him.

I was thinking the 37 range would be my time to buy back with (most of) the funds from selling last week, at $41.10. Low 30's forecast has me pondering. Moving down, consistently, while the S & P, and particularly, energy, has moved north, these last few days, really does show a pattern here.

WTI-Brent Spread Does Not Apply to CVRR

    by barebuttbob2015 Aug 15, 2014 1:41 AM
paintedblk paintedblk Aug 25, 2014 5:58 PM Flag

Now, I'm not claiming to be in your elite IQ group, and I could certainly be wrong, but I always understood it that ...... CVRR refines the cheaper WTI oil, but gets the slight advantage of competing with refiners that can only refine the heavier mid-east oil, which is price based on, the more expensive brent. Also, CVRR's 'Buffett type moat" is the extremely high start up cost, and ridiculously difficult regulatory hurdles in this industry. I'm long CVRR, but it's not a huge holding, as I can't fully wrap my head around all the moving parts , and challenges.

    Cramer Says Buy

If ETP follows KMI's lead, which made me a lot of money 2 weeks ago, there won't be an ETP anymore, it'll be just ETE. I did however, up my position in ETP last week, with some of the proceeds from selling all my KMI. ETP is now my 2nd largest holding, (pretty far) behind the LINE/LNCO combo. BBEP is a close 3rd. ETP is a solid company, making solid moves, with a bright future.

I bought at $42 too. I knew that living caricature had been regularly calling ETP the WORST COMPANY IN MY PORTFOLIO. It meant very little to me. The reason I'm here in the ETP message area now, is I'm considering upping my position, and wanted to see some thoughts on it. Cramer's BUY is not a plus.

Not seeing anything. Just glad that 1 of my most notorious dead money stocks is moving up !! CMLP seems to drift up and down, in it's range, like the wind.

I'd held LXP, for several years, but liquidated the holding, with many others, as the markets melted in 2008. Dipped my toe back into the LXP water, for a small amount, this morning (8-15-14 , $10.82). The water does seem warm. 6.2% dividend, reasonable business moves, reasonable management. I'm thinking ...... if the markets deem this company a 6% dividend payer, and LXP continues slowly raising that dividend, a .75 dividend, which is already affordable, starting January, 2016, isn't totally impossible. If my math is any good, that'd allow for a $12.50 share price, and compounded appreciation, north of 15% per year. That's a winner in my book. Good luck to all longs !!

    Sentiment: Buy

  • Dear Richard, I bought units of KMP, at $80.40, on 1-2-14. It was a bit rocky early on, after a hit piece, I believe by Barrons. But I believed in you, and continued adding shares, in your apparent personal favorite, KMI. Today, I sold my KMP, at $95.42. This week, I'll receive my 3rd, and likely, last distribution from that holding. I still hold all my KMI, and put in a bottom fishing type order, on quite a bit more KMI, with my KMP proceeds. Needless to say, I'm very happy with your successful unlocking, of the value in your companies. I'm somewhat at a loss, at all the whining going on, on this board. I'm also at a loss over anyone filing a lawsuit, but that surprises me considerably less, than the endless whining on this board. Lawyers will be lawyers after all, and that's the very nicest thing I can say on that. In closing, thank you very much for making this such a great company, and making so many people, including me, so very much money. Best regards, Hal
