Great set of posts this week Rick, thanks. What do you think the 680K, 7 month loan will be primarily used for?

You may have mentioned this in a previous post, but it was recently announced that monthly box office receipts in China exceeded those in the US for first time in February. Hope POW! and especially POW! stockholders get a taste of that eventually.

Yeah, frustrating. Just searched AMC "Lucky Man" and found the Spain and also the Portugal pages; in Spain Stan Lee is "el hombre mas influyente de la historia del comic" in Portugal he's "o homem mais influente da historia na area da banda desenhada". So we got that going for us.

Reminds me of an AquaFresh toothpaste giveaway comic book I got when I was 9 where Superman or Spiderman battles tooth decay. But any publicity is good publicity! Thanks for the posts Rick. Hopefully we'll see more action on the film production front in 2016. Here's to Stan's continued health.

Not that this really counts as "anything", but when I looked up "The Reflection" on imdb, a handful of project titles appeared under the "People who liked this also liked..." heading, including Realm and Tigress and Legion of 5 and Romeo and Juliet the War. Click on any of those and imdb tells you that they are "in development" and can only be viewed via imdb Pro. Wonder if "The Reflection" is one of those series that will show up on The Cartoon Network on Saturday nights once it's translated.

2PM Beijing time, which is 13 hours ahead of EST. 2PM Wednesday in Beijing was 1AM Wednesday in NYC.
Dang's IR website says a transcript will be posted, but they don't say when. They do give you an address in China where you can write to request a copy, who knows, that might be faster.

OK, so now Focus Media owns 75% of SLGE, and POW! owns 25% of SLGE. If Focus is "developing" "The Annihilator", would one assume that "The Annihilator" is an SLGE property that's split 75/25 between Focus and POW!, and that only 25% of the eventual profits of "The Annihilator" will end up on in POW!'s "coffers", as the young people don't say? Or are the purchase of RMI and the announcement of the movie development slate just coincidental, and Focus made a separate development deal with POW!, which owns 100% of "The Annihilator" (with 0% owned by SLGE)? I'll tell you, the existence of SLGE makes me a bit uncomfortable. But, I remain optimistic, I mean, why not?

Hmm, so take a project like Chakra, is that a Stan Lee Global Entertainment Project that POW owns 25% of OR is it a 100% POW! project that Stan Lee Global Entertainment owns none of, and if it's the latter, then name a Stan Lee Global Entertainment project, and then speculate on whether POW! owns 25% of that (while Ricco owns the other 75%). cha cha cha

  • By increasing content on your e-reader app, through cooperative deals such as your recent one with Trajectory, and through development of your self-publishing platform, you are ensuring that the number of users and the time that they spend on the app continues to increase, making your app a potentially huge generator of advertising dollars and a valuable tool to increase traffic to your e-commerce site. I hope that you are actively preparing to monetize your e-reader app thusly, and I hope that we see press releases from you on this subject soon. We stockholders are truly starved for DangDang press releases and would be very
pleased to hear some updates between quarterly earnings calls about your business strategies and performance.

    Best Wishes,

  • Dear E-Commerce China DangDang Inc. Management,

I have been a DangDang stockholder for several years, and while I have been quite disappointed by the share price, I like your responsible management style (large cash reserve, investment in warehouses, no debt) and the general direction of business performance (increasing sales revenue, increasing active customers). Therefore, I remain optimistic that your stock will ultimately outperform the market.

Most interesting to me is news of growing traffic to your e-reader mobile app. In your May 2015 conference call, Executive Chairwoman YuYu noted that “monthly active users increased about four times from year ago levels” on this app, and that DangDang is “making enhancements to our e-reader app designed to ingrain DangDang into our customers’ reading habits.” Furthermore, the Chairwoman stated that DangDang’s “newly launched original content app offers fresh and appealing content and allows readers and authors to interact with each other via popular social networking platforms”. This in turn “steers light readers to more in-depth content on the topics that interest them the most, offering additional opportunities for monetization.”

While you did not elaborate on your monetization strategies, the two that came to my mind involved advertising. I’m sure you’re aware that a popular mobile app can generate huge profit when monetized by advertising. Facebook’s mobile app, for example, which averaged 1.25 billion monthly active users in the first quarter of the year, was responsible for generating 73% of their entire advertising revenue, which worked out to 2.42 billion dollars for the quarter. Of course, DangDang can also advertise its own e-commerce site on the e-reader app to drive customers to purchase general merchandise from DangDang.

By increasing content on your e-reader app, through cooperative deals such as your recent one with Trajectory, and through development of your self-publishing platform, you (continued)

Everyone who piled in thinking DANG was about to go private figured out that they were wrong and bailed out, now we're back to level of volume and share price before the rumors started. DANG's e-reader app is really starting to cook, it's going to turn it all around for DANG - when going on the app becomes part of China's mobile community's routine, advertising on the app for merchandise on DANG's e-commerce site will drive readers to buy buy buy. VIPS down 8% today, already making room for DANG, which will quickly grab market share and become the industry's new dominant player

Awesome, all things considered I rate this as "progress." Thanks for the post. Single-digit me used to buy Marvel's "Werewolf by Night" comic book off the rack in the 70s, and I had the 45rpm record with the read-along comic too.

Even if they don't make a dime off e-book sales or subscriptions, that e-reader app is gold if they continue to increase number of users and time spent on the app - One: they can sell advertising like Facebook does on their mobile app and Two: DANG can put their own ads up on the app to drive readers to their e-commerce arm to buy more stuff from them. Result - advertising revenue plus sales revenue.
