Bought the "Mighty 7" DVD today

    by rickn23 Apr 15, 2014 3:09 PM

Hmmm...Mighty 7 DVD = 9.96 (+tax) = 332 shares of POWN at today's close (- commission)...which will turn out to be the better investment? Still betting on Stan staying sharp and Mighty 7/Chakra/Annihilator/Reggie the Veggie Eating Crocodile miraculously make POW! an attractive takeover target for Disney at a buck a share. Crazy?

Thanks Jason - another report of quarterly profits and continued revenue growth will get DANG pps headed back toward 20, then we'll see another burst of momentum amidst the hype of Alibaba's approaching IPO. Good second half of 2014 ahead for Dang Dang

Precisely. The numbers don't lie. If DANG keeps putting up profitable quarters and continues to demonstrate snowballing revenue, we'll see pps multiples similar to those enjoyed by VIPS over the past year.

Agreed, but hoping for under 5 years - would be surprised if there is not a China e-commerce frenzy surrounding the Alibaba IPO that raises all boats including DANG

  • These guys probably leave because Peggy is in control and they get sick of being figureheads with no authority, and/or because they just can't keep up with her. Expecting overreaction and another short-term pps nosedive but Peggy is the one who started the company and will continue to drive it to greater heights so long-term I'm not worried. CFO turnover will eventually become routine for this company to the point where it will be ignored. Another quarterly report showing profit and growth and continued alliances will make everyone forget about the CFO bs and upward trajectory will resume. E-Commerce China Dangdang today announced that Mr. Jun Zou, the chief financial officer of the Company, has tendered his resignation for personal reasons. His resignation will be effective on April 10, 2014. The Company has started searching for qualified CFO candidates. Ms. Peggy Yu Yu, Dangdang's Executive Chairwoman, will act as interim CFO during the search period until the new CFO is on board. Ms. Peggy Yu Yu is Dangdang's co-founder and has been Executive Chairwoman since the inception of the Company. Peggy received an MBA in finance and international business from the Stern School of New York University in 1992. "We thank Mr. Jun Zou for his many efforts and contribution, and we all wish him the best in his future pursuits," said Ms. Peggy Yu Yu.

We are fringe DANG news obsessives, the average investors who aren't scouring this board all day and night aren't going to hear about the WalMart deal until CNBC et al report it after the official announcement is made on Wednesday and then mainstream investors will jump on in. DANG was a great company last Spring when it was 4 bucks a share but no one bought in until last week when the media told everyone it was OK to do so because DANG cut their infrastructure investments enough to cross the profitability line. We already knew DANG was great, but the rest of the world is still slowly learning. When they hear "WalMart" and "DangDang" together in a sentence on the nightly business report or reasonable facsimiles Wednesday they're going to poop their pants.

I agree, CNBC will report it when the official announcement is made Wednesday and the mainstream investors who weren't already following the stock and weren't previously aware of the deal will jump in.

DANG's failure, or if you believe management, voluntary refusal to break into profitability is a major factor repelling investors - revenue close to VIPS and bigger cash pile, China's dominant eReader, recent inclusion of marketplace and flash sales into their business model, huge warehouse volume and delivery network - the average investor is ignoring DANG's advantages and instead choosing VIPS based on profitability. A report of a huge jump in revenue and/or market share could be enough for DANG pps to hold or possibly advance on Thursday, but until they break into profitability I suspect investors will continue to ignore DANG in favor of VIPS. I'm long DANG because they are a terrific company - I'm hoping they eventually report a profit again (last time was in 2010) and I believe that when they do investors will rush in and run it up with multiples similar to what was enjoyed by VIPS the last year plus.

10 more days left before the Earnings report

Excellent, Jason has started his countdown! This could be the big one, if profitability is reported everyone will probably rush in, pushing volume and pps sky high! If no profitability, probably the usual yawns and the under a million volume will persist...but someday DANG will be huge, great company, great management, just a matter of time.

If DANG crosses the profitability line, I too expect that the pps will multiply like VIPS' did. If they continue to spend so much on growth and infrastructure that their bottom line remains below profitability, I expect that it's going to be slow going despite increased revenues. Great company, just a matter of time before stockholders are rewarded - but I don't think the big buy-in will occur until profitability is reported. So IMO, buy and hold till that day comes.

Welcome back Jason - how many days till the next earnings report? I'm holding shares until it is ONE 15, expecting to see pps multiples like 2013 VIPS if DANG crosses the profitability line this report. Start that countdown...

Well put. Dang has been building for the future, slow and steady. They've developed a solid and reliable storage and distribution network a la Amazon. Decelerated spending on completed infrastructure combined with increasing earnings from their own sales and others sales via their marketplace program will lead to near term break even followed by growing profits in subsequent earnings periods. This is the year DANG starts rolling over flash in the pan companies like VIPS. I'm looking forward to multiple pps performance through 2015.

Does this count as a press release? No idea what this means in English but I'm hoping the words "significant", "upgrade", and "increase" mean big money for Dang Dang. When's the next earnings release expected, early March = 7 weeks from now or so? Start your countdown Jason, 7 weeks, 6 weeks, 5 weeks...this could be the big one, DANG profit coupled with China e-commerce fervor surrounding the Alibaba IPO could result in a year of VIPS-style multiple pps increases - c'mon Jason, 10 dollars, 20 dollars, 30 dollars... 2014 -- it's finally DANG's turn!
