Very difficult to find decent bread ANYWHERE in the states. 99% is air bread with sugar added, especially the "whole wheat" stuff. Much more work needs to be done but the Yuppies are getting too old

2017 a long way in the future in this market. I am avoiding petroleum related companies until sometime 2016. That may be too late but I don't have the stomach to watch principal melt away even if the dividend is attractive.

I know COP has pledged not to cut the divvy but at some point they may not have any choice.

When oil prices recover at what point does exploration and development suffer because they've dipped into cash to cover the divvy during hard times?

Things will get a lot worse before they get better. I am staying far, far away from anything that has to do with petroleum.

Is Obama topping off the U.S. Strategic Oil Reserve? How come none of the talking heads are asking this question? There is more to the oil story than gasoline prices.

Also - to the talking heads. Next time an "oil train" wrecks stick around long enough to find out WHY the train wrecked.

Yeah, basically what the talking heads are saying. I would ask why the U.S. is in need of yet another source of tobacco, alcohol and sugar? Isn't this stuff bad for us? Maybe not providing it is sourced from Cuba. And tourism? There are dozens of Caribbean resorts already. What's so great about Cuba? (Although there are a few people I would like to send on a long vacation to Guantanamo Bay!)

Latest Value Line (Feb. 6) has COP 2015 earnings at $1.25. "... these shares are best suited for speculative accounts... ."

I don't see how COP avoids cutting the dividend.

Dude, you right about income seekers. You've got to figure that's what the institutions are here for (insurance companies, pension funds, annuities, etc.). MCD probably an example of the div providing a counter to bigger losses as long as earnings are somewhat stable. The big boys are welcome to it for now.

If you bought at the peak ($104) your dividend yield is about 3.3%. And if you still own it at this point you are sitting on an 11.5% capital loss. If it were me I would admit I made a mistake and move on and look for a company with some prospects for future growth.

I tried to get some info on changing/upgrading my land line services. After going through a lengthy log in process (entered my account and password THREE times) I got to the screen where I could request info on what services are available at my location. I've been watching the spinning dots for over 45 minutes. Why should I continue with VZ when I can get the same services from my cable company and cell phone provider? You know darn well they would LOVE to ditch the land lines. Hey, stupido! Spin in off you dolts!

JPM misses by 12 cents. Unfortunately the fallout will bleed over to banks that have honest management.

I feel it will be a long wait before BGS has another run like that. The div is great but how long can they afford to pay it? I'd take some off the table if I was in your position. Up to you, however.

Did I hear right? In a China McDonald's someone bit into a McNugget and there was a piece of vinyl inside it? ALL sales of McNuggets have been SUSPENDED in China until the matter is looked into? Just one more in a series of bad news days for MCD.

U.S. banks are way over-leveraged due to Fed Reserve running the printing presses 24/7. Unfortunately BNS share price gets sucked down because of it does some business in the states. Great holding for folks who want the dividend. Probably not so hot for someone seeking short term action. Glad I didn't open a large position here. Any thoughts on ApplePay or PayPal?

If you are in this for the dividend you should probably hold. Otherwise you will not make anything on share price. I held this for over two years and all I made was the dividend (and not by very much). These REITs always portray themselves as big time wheeler-dealers but it just isn't so. With mortgage rates at all time lows they should be saving significant money just through re-fi's. And don't get me started on the "aging population" demographic.

Three generations of people know the food is not good for you. MCD and other fast food slop joints will go the way of Big Tobacco. The customer pool will diminish going forward. Anyone with any sense will shun the fat food restaurants just like staying away from cigarettes. Advertising ban on the way? Ronald McDonald = Joe Camel? How about a "High Cholesterol Settlement Fund" to reimburse states for health care costs that are related to a poor dietary habits? You know a lot of people who regularly eat this #$%$ get hooked in their teens.

A good point that always seems to draw criticism, especially on this board. Much depends on how long you intend to hold a stock. Me, I've gotten burned too many times by sticking with losers. Best to just move on ASAP. MCD might work for channel trading if you stay out for quarterly earnings. I get a charge out of folks who make a moral issue of how long you stay in a trade.
