I just read an article about Lenel. They were bought by the buildings division of UTC. They provide security. They provided it for the Little League World Series. They provide a bunch of other security stuff Security - I am betting that is going to turn into a huge future business for UTC. Look at all the evil in the world.
I have a bunch in the income fund and when I request a distribution, I ask only for that money. The rest sits. Request it that way. It counts towards your minimum distribution.
I only hope that Hayes does a better job with Nortek than Harry Gray did with Mostek. That was a disaster. A tale of 2 Teks!
When China sneezes, we all catch cold. Don't they have about 20% of the world's population?
Kid - You come from great stock and you have accomplished a bunch in your 77 years. I have been to the Rocky Hill facility a couple of times. God bless your dad! You have accomplished one thing I hope I can do - make it to 77. 8 more to go. Had a few scares. My dad got upset with my wife and I when we decided to build because we went to the bank for a $22,000 mortgage. You do what you have to.
You could not tell a joke if it bit you in the #$%$ I worked 2 jobs for 26 years. I pounded fence posts in for 2.50 and hour when I got laid off one time. My father drove an oil truck and delivered coal and ice from the 30's through the 80's. Our family knows hard work and because of it, my sons have worked hard. One is a police officer in DC. You have not cornered the market on hard work. Get rid of the chip.
Everyone posting here seems to have all the answers. I am not a market guru for sure. But I can give you one piece of advice that is foolproof and works over and over...........
If you want to make a small fortune in the stock market, then start out with a large one. It worked for me!
I do not understand how a drop in oil would hurt this company. I would expect that if a drop in oil would equate to a 30 cents decrease at the pump over a period of time, then TA would be able to decrease their pump price by say, 28 cents and thereby increase their margins. People would drive more rather than less. I gassed up yesterday at a TA near me. The price was only 5 cents more than Costco or BJ's but it was more convenient and the nickel made no big difference on 10 gallons.
I stopped at one today to gas up. The price was only 5 cents higher than Costco & BJ's. Easier in & out. Their yard was loaded with tractor-trailers. I do not see any reason why this stock cannot hit 20 this year. An analyst today on TV said we may experience a melt-up in stocks toward the end of the year once the Fed makes its move and uncertainty is out of the way. I hope so.
Market goes down, UTX goes down, market goes up, UTX goes down! Next: Market goes down again, UTX goes down again. I will buy in the low 90's. It is a pretty sure bet that it will be there soon. Big Steve is the stock guru on this board.
Hope all goes well. I was cut loose in 2010 and was forced to take SS & pension. Too old to get anything decent.
I keep hearing all bad news about the markets, UTX, etc. That's good! I hope more people jump on the bad news band wagon throughout the next few months. Could lead to an opportunity.
