I did not say, or mean for you to think that I sold at 120. Poor wording on my part. I lightened up around 118 and bought around 110. I plan on lightening up again if it gets to 120. 120 is my 'new' goal.

Last time it hit 118 I lightened up a bit and then bought a bit at 110. I am guessing I may get another opportunity to sell at 120 in the not-too-distant future. Happy days are here again. No complaints with UTX performance over the last 15 months. Outstanding!

Like I said, the tax code needs to be changed to bring it in line with a fairer taxing strategy and make it easier for the average high school grad to do their own taxes. I do not think anyone would disagree. I would like to see the income tax to be completely done away with and have a national sales tax. That way, you end up taxing even the underground economy money that allot of small businesses and individuals are hiding. When they spend it on all their niceties, they pay their taxes.

I do believe that all US businesses should pay their "fair" share, whatever that is. The tax code is far too complex and should be simplified. I keep hearing that but nothing seems to change. Several month back, I saw an article about the 100 most generous corporations/companies with respect to charitable giving in the US. GE was on top. I scanned the article looking for UTC but if I remember correctly, it was not in the top 100 list.

    600 layoffs at Sik.

The helicopters are co-production with much of the work in Turkey. Because there were so many issues in the program, allot of penalties were involved including giving Turkey a "free" aircraft named the 'Free Hawk' by people at S. This new contract is a hope that things get better over the long run. Let's hope so for the benefit of the remaining people in CT.

Another report : 600 more over the next "several" weeks. Half salary/half hourly. Where do these people go to get work in a state that already has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country? And, you know a bunch are well into their 50's on up.

  • airbornetrppervet by airbornetrppervet Feb 21, 2014 5:15 PM Flag

Just on the news. They announced another 600 layoffs next week at Sickorsky. Salary and hourly. This is how their management straightens things out. It is a "challenging business environment". Over the last 4 or 5 years, we are talking thousands of good people gone. Still think they are not hemorrhaging cash? We are talking a good percentage of the workforce.

IMO: It will add to the bottom line. They are eliminating a drag on earnings that will be there for awhile. They do not have the right people at S to get it done.

Go to this article at Seeking Alpha....

    http://seekingalpha.com/article/2036373-united-technologies-and-china-time-to-buy?source=email_rt_article_readmore&uprof=46

They show some numbers about the different divisions within UTC. Everything looks like it is on the upswing except Sickorsky. That is the drain in my opinion. If they could unload a money loser, they will be even in much better shape going forward. Remember, they agreed to deliver the remainder of the Canadian A/C at ''No Additional Cost". That will hurt significantly. Comments please. Am I reading the signals incorrectly?

Can we break $115 this week?

Considering we hit $118+ recently, I would consider anything less than $120 by the end of March utter failure. Udder failure is when you try to milk a cow and nothing happens.

  • airbornetrppervet airbornetrppervet Feb 15, 2014 1:44 PM Flag

ctb.....I'll give that to you. I just hope they spin-off or sell S. That will bring in some cash. What the buyer will get is the prestige of the presidential and Back Hawk programs. Other than that, they will get a company that is hemorrhaging cash and a no-talent upper management. I truly believe that.

Hopefully Pratt's successes can make up for Sickorsky's failures. Pratt has always been the flagship of UTC. As Pratt goes, so goes UTC.

Kid- I went to Yahoo Finance and did a 2 year comparison of UTX, Honeywell, Lock Martin and Boeing. UTX was on the bottom with the other 3 outperforming for it over the 2 years.

Cramer is a loud mouth, self-promoting egomaniac and, IMO, has very little credibility. He does not bring much to the table.

To whom it may concern: YOUR president Obama, compared the GI Bill to welfare. How is that for a great Commander-in-Chump? Unfortunately, he is my president also. GI's earned the right to go to school under the bill. They payed dearly. Many troops serving in our military live below the povery level and they deserve better care from those they protected.. God bless them. Obama is a d#@*!

Kid, Agreed. Just what they worked for. I have no use for lazy people. But, I do not blame people for inheriting wealth. It's not their fault. We can hope but we cannot make wealthy people pass some down to the poor. The hard working, thru no fault of their own, poor. My wife and I do a good amount each year but I resent the government taking it and giving it to people that do not deserve it. Look at all the welfare fraud and food stamp fraud in the US.

Just what they worked for. And, after taxes, I want to keep what I worked for. I do not want federal and state government to take it from me and give it away.

They are going to have to make up that 50% somewhere because the bills still have to be paid in this liberal welfare state. My pension from UTC is 100% taxable. What the #$%^ are they going to do, take more of mine? I have a friend who was a high school principal in CT. She was making about $120+K per year. Her State pension is over $80K per year. And, she is collecting Social Security (age 66) plus she has the states equal to a 401K. So tell me, we should not tax 50% of her pension? @#$^%%^ CT!
