Just to get this out the way, Im long and going much longer on ATHX. But I do have some doubts. Of course the initial one is that, does the Multistem platform work? I think it does. My fear is what if it works too well? If you read my post history, I was the first one troll the Healthcare forums to see if I could find anyone enrolled in the UC trials and I did find one poster that had posted that he was part of "Some stem cell trial by a company called Athersys" and he was doing much better. His post was dated two years ago..almost three now.
If this platform works, this company could be worth billions (possibly in the hundreds and not tens) over time. This type of "store forever and give quickly" type stem cell therapy could cure alot of things. I wonder if Big Pharma will let this one out the box. They have crushed companies like this one before. Im hoping ATHX will be the front runner. But be cautious here and be ready to be in it for the long haul.
Interesting post. Do you use this info to trade or just that..as info? Explains the quirky ups and downs of this stock.
A failed company? I would hardly say that. There are a million biotechs that started at less than this and went to the stratosphere. JAZZ .50 150 dollars . ACADIA, CLDX, HGSI, I could go on and on. My point is, just because the stock price is not where you like it, hardly means this is a failed company. The only reason I wouldnt say buy as much as you can is because the market looks to be very unstable. Wait it out and buy IF this stock goes lower.
You know Im long on options for this stock and I hate to say bad things things about a stock Im in...well, actually this really isnt about this stock but the market in general. I wouldnt buy this stock or any other stock right now ifyou had a gun to my head. Did you see the read across the board yesterday for teh DOW and NASDAQ. Looks like big one might be coming. GTXI will keep tanking along with the rest of the market, unless GTXI issues some amazing news release like IPCT did, stating that the FDA is satisfied with all trials and GTXi can start marketing ostarine (doubtfull THATS going to happen). So lets just be real and stop tellling people to buy into a tanking market. My advice..go cash now and wait it out.
Just in case you didnt know, hedge funds and institutions dont have to file SC13's but once every quarter. So for instance Baker Brothers, could have bought in and you wont know until 1st day of next financial quater. Of course that goes both ways. Black Rock (which is a listed holder of GTXI) could divest themselves of stock and we wouldnt know until beginning of next quarter. Going by the volume and corresponding increase in stock price I would say some institution has either increased a position or started a new one.
On another note, if the market tanks, it wont matter what kind of news GTXI releases, no stock will move much in a tanking market. Feds are easing QE (quantitive easing) by 10 billion a month. Its not looking good. Im seriously considering going all cash soon and seeing what develops. If it does tank, wait it out, then #$%$ up some awesome deals like a bottom feeder.
something is up. Today will be telling. Heavy volume all week and some of last week. Hmmmmm. Makes me think our large short position has finally exited the building.
JP Morgan..nor Moran d@mn yahoo and its no edit function
squirrel..Whats your take on the whole GTXI rollercoater ride? Why cant it keep its gains? Seems like it needs a million plus volume to maintain a level or else it starts to creep downwards. Very odd channeling stock. (Im long call options for Feb and May).
Cant get my brain around why insiders sold 5million shares out of 19 million. Did they not know what they had? Id be careful with this one. Insider tape always (okay..usually) tells the tale.
?? I normally dont post on stocks I dont invest in..but wow! What a move. Congrats to any long term holders. Seems like even the insiders got caught off guard. Over 5million shares sold by insiders in the last 6 months. Bet they are kicking themselves!
This one Im on agreement with you. Why do people think this will be bought out? What? At 2 or 3 dollars. I dont think management accumlated all the shares in the last 6 months to sell at bargain basement prices. Plus no company would be interested in a buyout as of right now. Lets all just sit back and see what next week brings. Will this continue to fly or dwindle back down again. Only time will tell.
Also, yourjunk, when you cut and paste from an article on seeking alpha, you should either put it in quotation marks or recognize the author..or both would be nice.
hmmm..You points are valid..except the one that I pointed out which is your statement saying that insiders are selling. Again 1) That usually moves a stock downward.
2) Lets use your Opexa example. It was the secondary offering that bought Opexa stock down. In fact insiders have sold no shares and actually filed form 4 that show they purchased stock,
Look, I will even say this. GTXI has a bad habit of actually not being able to holding gains. There is a large and seemingly powerful short position against the stock. So this could very well get trinkled down next week and leave some bag holders, But stop saying that insiders are selling. Thats tatamount to a lie and I know that form 4's dont have to be filed "instantly"..but you are using that fact alone to speculate that insiders sold during the volume and price runup. Those three dont usually go together. Insiders selling, huge volume runup, and price gains. Im definitely not a "to da moon" type investor. This company is not broke, has laid off most of its non essential personnel to conserve cash and they have more than enough to get thru the year.
Its like 2 posts from two different people. Your first post made sense but then you had to screw it up wtih your second post. I qoute you " add that insider selling prior to a secondary offering is also a valid explanation of Friday's activity" Insider selling doesnt usually propel a stock upward. Secondly, no form 4's have been filed. So what insdier selling are you talking bout? Or do you mean all the insider buying in the last 6 months thru form 4's and S13's that amount to almost 2 million shares being bought up by insiders DIRECT from market.? Maybe I misunderstood you but I doubt it. I dont think you meant any harm but really, you should get your facts straight or just dont post misfactual info period.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
I dont think so. The last time the street mentioned GTXI it went up about 5% and gave it all back during intraday trading.
Secondly, that 507,000 share buy after hours was almost a million dollar buy. Thats very telling. Monday, or all of next week should be very very telling. Maybe the paint has finished drying on this one?
